What Rifles would you guys say are the most accurate of the
Simi-Auto External mag type?
(not Including Berrett or ones that are banned or cost as much as a new car)

I'm looking for a good one in Preferably in around a 7mm+ cal but finding one is proving difficult at best.

About the only one I can find is the Springfield M25
http://www.springfield-armory.com/prod-rifles-m25.shtml

Which besides the web page I know nothing about.

I'm sure most of you guys will know of atleast a few.

& Please don't mention Bolt Guns...

The Springfield M25 is a derivative of the M14. The M14 has long been used both as a sniper rifle (in various mod numbers) and as a premier high power target rifle. With it's rigid, forged receiver, capability for scope mounting, and it's excellent gas system, it is probably the most accurate full power military semi-auto ever built.

AR system, AR-10 if you must have .30 cal. Easy to free-float the barrel, outstanding accuracy.

AR10 is probably your best bang for the buck bet. Alot of people really have issues with direct impingement gas systems and they have some good points but it does seem to aid in making an accurate gun.

AR's also have about a bazillion modifications, tactitoys, lights, scopes, lasers, can openers, remote controls etc. to build the gun into anything you want from an uber accurate snipers wet dream to a light weight brush hunting gun.

Vern, a minor correction...

The original USGI M14 had a forged receiver.

Springfield, Inc of Geneseo, IL makes their semiauto M14 clone, copyrighted as the M1A, with a cast receiver.

There are only a few forged receiver M14 clones out there for the civilian market these days. One is the Chinese variant. One is the Entreprise Arms variant. One is the newer LRB Arms offering. Smith Enterprises did offer forged receivers for a while, and may come back with that style in the future.

Regardless, the differences between a cast and forged M14/M1A receiver will go unnoticed by their owners.

Still somewhat impressed by the accuracy of my semi-auto, external mag Swedish AG-42B, myself. ;)

Another vote for an AR-based rifle. In hanging around at Highpower matches, I have yet to see an AR-15 with a good barrel shoot poorly. To go bigger than 7mm you will need to go to the AR-10 platform. If I ever make Distinguished Rifleman and President's 100 with my AR-15, I may have an AR-10 built up in 6.5-08 for fun. Or maybe have a 6mm PPC upper built. Ah, toys...

Stoner SR-25T, Armalite AR-10T...

H&K PSG-1 if you have lots of money to blow...

www.lrbarms.com for a good forged M-14 type receiver.

Whatever you end up with I hope you have very deep pockets... :)

I said no Checkbook Smokers, If I wanted to spend a ton on one i'd get a HK MSG 90, but they are banned no thanks to Bush Sr...:(

Nothing is going to fall into the cheap category. I am not sure what you mean by no checkbook smokers.

My guess is to get what you are looking for you are shopping in the neighborhood of say $1500ish.

Wanna go cheaper than I have found VEPR .308s to be very accurate for the money $500ish, but nowhere near AR10/high quality M1A etc.

The M25 is like $2500 or so, is it not?, SR25 are stupid expensive IMHO.

Basically I stand by the fact that best bang for the buck as far as accuracy is going to come from AR10 based arm. Armalite or DPMS.

Big G brings up a good point. A nice Tiger or even a cheaper Romak III might be an option but neither will be near as accurate as the AR series, M1A etc.

Nothing over $3500 (not Including Optics {cant put a junk scope on a good rifle now can i? ;) ]) :)

I'd still like to see the HK MSG 90 made avalable to Civillians again, has a nice drool factor to it :D

Remington 7400

This model is available in several calibers.
Scroll down to "7400"
These can be had new for around $400

I forgot to mention that the AR platform also is extremely easy to add optics to, on a flat top.

I have a Remington 7400 in .30-06, and while it's a fun gun that tames the '06 amazingly well, it is not a sub 1 MOA shooter.

I define sub 1-MOA as 'accurate.'

You are looking at the
* Knights SR-25 (over budget a bit with good glass.)

* DPMS .308 AR. This one is in your range ($1700 for gun leaves $1300 for good Nightforce, etc. glass) and seems to be a consistant 1/2 MOA perofrmer!!!! Get one, because in Kaliforniastan I can't!
