Most expensive gun to shoot.

The humble 30-06 round

My most expensive gun would have to be my Winchester 1895 Hi-Grade in 30-06. It cost me $1,200 in 1998. It was one of the modern reproductions.

It's ammo would be the most expensive. All my other rifles are .303 Lee Enfields and 98 Mausers in 308 and 7.92mm. I've purchased bulk surplus ammo for those rifles. Winchester advises against shooting military surplus ammo in the 1895. Now that's standard stuff from a manufacturer, but considering how much I spent on the rifle I'm inclined to listen. I don't reload rifle ammo so I only use brand name 30-06 ammo. Which therefore is defintely the most expensive ammo I shoot. Even if it is only 30-06.

The 1895 has always been one of my "Grail Guns" so I don't shoot it very often. It's a Safe Queen, but I don't consider it a sin to have one or two Safe Queens. It isn't horrible to have a couple pretty things in one's collection.

Handgun wise, my .460V revolver has to be up there. . . an $900 gun shooting $2 rounds.

i dont own any real expensive guns (in terms of ammo), but interestingly its my 357 mag that takes the cake for most expensive factory ammo.

pistols:
i own 22lr, 9mm, and 357 mag. Of these, 357 mag is by far the most expensive. Cheapest I can find ammo for it is about $10 per 50 when buying in bulk. ( i am not counting 38spl for this excercise)

shotgun:
have a 870 12 gauge. I pay $3.27 for 25rnds of 8shot at wally. So thats 6.54 per 50....fairly cheap in my book.

rifles:
my rifle calibers are 22lr, 17hmr, 223, 7.62x54R, 7.62x39
17hmr is pricey at $8.50 per 50. 7.62x39 is getting pricey, but still below 17hmr. 7.62x54R is dirt cheap, lots of surplus ammo. 223 is also getting pricey, but if you shop hard, you can get 1000 rounds for under $150, which works out $7.50 per 50. My last batch of ammo for 223 was a case of barnaul which including shipping ran me $130.

Fifty cal. The only reason I havn't got one yet is because of the cost of the ammo over here
To reload
cases are £2 each
Bullet £1.50
Primers £20 per 100
+powder and press etc...

So 100 rounds is gonna cost around $800 and that after you've spent $550 on dies and a press

Its much cheaper in the US. You can buy them. You can get pretty much all you need for .50 calibre ammo for $200 for 150 rounds.

.700ne is unzodly expensive.

They cost about $350-400 a box of 5 rounds, but more importantly a decent rifle to hold them is in the $70000-150000 range.

Rounds for the Lahti and Solothurn ATR’s (20X138Bmm I think) are like $50-$70 a round for factory loaded. Brass is like $40 a pop.

:neener:

Oops my bad. I paid ~$20 around for 60mm M69 rounds. I can reload and reuse them for the price of a 20ga. shotgun blank.

My registered DD M2 mortar is a hoot.

the most expensive gun that its been by displeasure to own and shoot was a .32 cal rimfire I think it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 2.50 everytime it went pop. (couldn't find ammo for the longest time)

+1 on the Lahti. Depending on the load, you gotta have a $200 NFA form for each shell...

Really, all it is is a shoulder-fired version of a WWII 20mm aircraft cannon.

I don't own one, but from a pure "technologies plausibly available to civilians" analysis...

It may not be the most, but it is a modern rifle anyone here can pickup for less then 5 grand without scope and that is my pet rifle
Weatherby 378mag 5 bucks everytime I pull the trigger, but its a fun ride

My most expensive per round as a bottom line is the .375 RUM at ~$3/cartridge. However, if I opt to buy top end ammo for the .50 BMG we all know those can be $7-$10 a shot. I usually shoot surplus at $1.90/round.
(I can also handload the .375 for $1.20/ea., reusing cases. new brass is spendy)

How about the 8-bore elephant load. Saw one in a display in Cabela's this afternoon. Just slightly smaller than a bananna.! :what:  :D

I only shoot service rounds (and rimfire) so I guess my two most extreme cases are my Swiss K-31 I paid a little over $100 for (50 cents a shot) and my AR-15 at about $800 but only 20 cents a shot. They are both fine rifles but I shoot the AR a bit more.
