I've kind of been wanting a new toy for the range lately and I'm thinking it needs to be a handgun that will probably serve no practical purpose other than to make me smile really big each time I pull the trigger. Nice recoil, a big boom, concussion that makes the shooter next to me a little queasy....I want something fun. What do you guys think I should get?

The desert eagle seems to be the classic choice for this and I've never shot one but by the numbers it doesn't seem like it'd be all that exciting. I'm thinking more like 4-5" s&w 500 or 460xvr would give me alot more bang for my buck as it were. What would you tell me to buy? :D

Check out a CZ-52 in 7.62x25 Tokarev. Large cone of fire, big boom, high-speed round in a bottleneck cartridge. The only practical application for this SAO pistol would be extreme penetration but as a defensive caliber.....

Puts a huge smile on my face every time I take it to the range. :D

I'd say a "machine" pistol. :D

Back in the days before the AWB, one of my friends owned a Calico M100 in 22lr. That thing was a hoot and it mostly worked.:)

223 Pistol

A friend of mine bought a Bushmaster Carbon 12 Type 97S Pistol (223).

I'm thinking "this has no practical use at all". I still think that but -
It is a real blast to shoot and now I have to have one!:D

I'm thinking about the Kel-Tec version though.

Taurus Raging Bull in either .454 Casull or .500 S&W 10" barrel

Personally, I would get a revolver with the longest barrel I could find...think - Joker in Batman...I'd get a HUGE kick out of that.

Here is mine, I've since put a Red Dot sight on it. No practical use, but is a lot of fun to blast away with!

Kel-Tec PLR-16 would be my second choice.

CZ-52 is always good for "what the h... is he shooting" looks at the range after touching a few off.

Yeah, +100 on that and Kacerdias didn't even mention the fact that it'll about knock out anyone standing at the 3-4 O'clock position because the CZ-52 kicks out brass harder than anything else I've ever fired! Tinygnat 219 has a dent in his skull to prove it

I call my CZ-52 “Mjölnir” (named for Thor's Hammer) and I typically get one of two responses.
#1) What the hell IS that thing?
#2) Is that a CZ-52? Cool, I want one of those too!

Oh and Kacerdias, Wolf makes a JHP round for the CZ-52 now and it does some serious expansion according to gel tests.

The Bushmaster and DPMS pistols are too pricey for me, but I always thought that the Kel-Tec .223 pistol looked like it would be super fun to shoot.

Wolf huh? I'll certainly have to look around for their Tok ammo. There was an outfit from Brazil that made 7.62x25 hollowpoint rounds though the name eludes me. They were in a blue box with white lettering.

And if you do pick up a CZ-52, be sure to get some Hakan grips for it! They make the funny angles of the gun easier to wrap a paw around.

Come on guys thats not going to make the shooter next to me want to throw up ;)

Personally I'd say any of those uber stupid .17HMR snubbie revolvers.
Nice point. For the people who cannot handle the recoil of .22 magnum? For the people who hunt groundhogs at 200 yards and REALLY REALLY prefer fixed sights?

I have a CZ52. It's alright, nothing terribly awesome. The sharp edges really get on my nerves. Got it for sale right now actually.

+1 for ar type pistol. Definately gets the guy next to you on the line's attention.
