Most inaccurate rifle you've ever shot?

Winchester 52C, circa 1956. ...this is a wonderful target rifle that typically shoots under a dime at 50 yards outdoors.

...it will leave my posession as they take it from my cold dead hands...

Have to exclude bad ammunition for this thread. I would say the worst I have used was an AR7.
But as others have said, a respectable .22 rifle can be made to shoot crap if you feed it Magtech or Remington ammo.

No idea. A friend had just bought three. One in 7.62x39, one 5.45mm and one in 223. He loaned me the 7.62 to try out. Kept getting my thumb pinched above the safety lever, couldn't hit a thing with it. Tookit home and bagged it, no better than 6 inch groups at 50 yards. Gave it back to him along with the rest of the ammo I had bought for.

Is it the one in the pic? That's looks a lot like a WASR (no dimples), and they are usually fairly accurate (4ish MOA). Much better than 6" at 50 yards. I'd guess the optic was a problem... It looks like a TruGlo/Tasco dot, which is really just an awful choice for anything with more recoil than a .22. I'd blame the dot first.

Nothing truly horrendous....various Eastern-bloc weapons would probably take the cake. Mosin M38 and M44, cheaper AK-stype rifles, SKS.

Rem. 742,.308 carbine.2 1/2 inches MOA on a good day.It's still my favorite woods rifle,killed 50-60 deer with it.biker

Marlin 1894 44 Mag. microgrooved barrel shooting cast bullets. It is all over the place at 25 yards. Maybe one in 5 rounds will hit the paper.

With almost any factory jacketed bullet ammo it will shoot about 3 in at 100 yards.

2 or 3 years ago, I bought an M1917 Eddystone at a gun show for $110. The stock was sporterized, but it still had the original iron sights. However, the barrel was trash... "sewer pipe" doesn't even begin to describe it. It has severe pitting all the way through.

I loaded some M2 ball in it and tried to zero it at 25m. On the first shot, I didn't see a hole in the paper. On the second shot, I saw a hole low on the target. My friend said "hey, there is a big gold cloud coming out of the barrel every time you shoot it!" When we went downrange to check the target, the one hole was odd-shaped, and there was also a spackling of smaller holes on the page. Apparently the bullets were coming apart somewhere along the way! So basically I have a .30-06 shotgun. :D

Needless to say, I didn't shoot it anymore after that. I am still trying to find a barrel and GI stock for it. For what I paid, I think I will still come out alright on it once it's turned back to GI configuration.

Ruger m-77 in .30-06 shot 5-8in groups at 100 yds with different ammo. Only had 150 rds through it, bought used from a co-worker and sold a week later.

Worst for me was a WASR-10, horrendous. Basketball or larger groups at 100 yards. I expected it would not shoot like my AR-15's but did not expect it would be unuseable for hunting hogs at 100 yards. Lesson learned.

The M-16A1 I had in Germany. It was 100% within spec (I was the unit armorer) but the POS couldn't hit for anything. I kept it for myself since I couldn't knowingly give it to a soldier and they wouldn't let me DX it. I also kept the unit's worst 1911A1 for myself but with time was able to make it shoot as well as the worn out thing would without a world class rebuild.

To this day I don't/won't own either type of firearm.

Hi Point 4595. I've lost track of the number of different factory ammo and my own reloads I've tried. Several scopes and red dot sights. I haven't tried a shoot off against my RIA 1911...yet.

I think the pistol would win.

Probably the red Ryder I sawed off when I was a kid. Of real firearms, my remmy 597 was terrible new. I've done enough work for it to be halfway decent, but it still only 1.5-2" at 25yds

Soviet Bloc AK-47s get this award for inaccuracy without question.

It is a close-in sturmgeweher not a tack driver.

10 years ago I purchased a new Browning A Bolt 270 wsm in stainless, best group ever shot with it was about 8 inches:: Tool it back to store, gunsmith tried several scopes and mounts, checked crown and rifling, no help. Called Browning, they said send it back,so we did, 3 months later I recieve a new rifle, and no explanation, Second rifle did shoot better, IT WOULD SHOOT 3INCH GROUPS!!!!! So I sold it, after telling buyer the whole story and insisting he shoot it hisself. He still waqnte it . Was a pretty rifLe, I had a Boyds thumbhole in nutmeg, stainless leupold mounts and Elite 3200 3x9x50 Firefly scope. Never found out why neither would shoot. Since I have shot several wsm's with no problems at all. Guess I just wasn't holding my mouth right.

M1 Garand...

..well my first one that is. It was an old ceremonial rifle that I put back into working order. It would shoot 6 inches from point of aim at 50 yards. The only reason I can think it shot the way it did was due to the fact that it had been spot welded at the barrel and receiver. I THINK this caused it to warp. I did some calculations and found that a deviation of .003 of an inch would knock the bullet off by 6 inches at 50 yards. Too bad. It was a 1945 Springfield with a correct barrel and nice original finish. I parted it out to purchase one of my many other M1's.

Worst for me was a 40 years ago , 12ga cylider bore at 50 yards with winchester slugs. and a bead sight. Went back to patterning buckshot for hunting deer in the swamps

My two most inaccurate are a 181 series Mini-14 and a Winchester Model ’94. I bought the ’94 in 1974 and I still have it. It's deadly accurate at 20 feet.

I recently and reluctantly replaced the Mini 14. When it started keyholing at 25 yards, I talked to a gunsmith about it and we ended up sending it back to the factory to have them take a look at it. This was done more out of curiosity than anything else because I wouldn’t have paid much to repair it. The factory said it was worn out and offered me a deal on a trade-in. They said they’d send me a new series Mini-14 on a trade-in basis for $420.00.

My initial instinct was to turn them down. I enjoyed shooting my old Mini-14 and shot the heck out of it but I wasn’t sure I wanted another one. Plus I didn’t think $420 was that much of a deal. My gunsmith friend told me that the new models were much improved over the older models and he thought $420 was a very good deal. In light of that and the fact that I’ve got about 5,000 rounds of .223 on hand without a gun to shoot them in, I said okay. The gun arrived a couple of weeks ago and I haven’t shot it as yet but I’ve still got some of my range records for my old Mini so I’ll be able to quickly tell if there is much of a difference between old and new.

I noticed someone listed a Winchester ’94 Trapper as being one of their more inaccurate firearms. That surprised me. I’ve got a .44 MagnumTrapper and it is an excellent shooter out to 100 yards. I’m not a hunter so I don’t shoot a lot of full loads. The 240 grain bullet over 6 grains of Unique has delivered up some good tight groups at 50 yards and does well at 100 too. It also handles reduced loads of Red Dot and Bulleyes very well.

1903A3 with steel cased Russian ammo. Couldn't hit a target at 200 yards with it.

The rifle is fine, but I wouldn't give away ammo that bad.

Bahahah. That's half the reason why I won't bother buying any more Russian steel cased 30-06 ammo.

1891 Argentinian Mauser that my dad bought from my uncle. I think he gave him like $30 for it. Regardless, it patterns like a .410 at 50 yards. Sweet looking gun though.

Do you mean only the rifle, or combined with open sights which have a short sight distance?

Some of you have watched "hickok45" hit a 15" gong from 220 yards, in a free stance, with his WASR AK clone on his Youtube channel.

My worst results were with a Russian Mosin-Nagant 44 from 50 yards. The pattern was about 6", but only using old Bulgarian ammo from the dusty gray ammo can might have been part of the problem.
