I know each state is different. But after spending two weeks researching, I am not much wiser on the legalities of carrying while on a motorcycle.

Some states, have mentioned motorcycles in their laws. Most do not, or I have not found them. It seems some states consider them as vehicles. Others don’t, (In regards to firearms transportation) and consider you on them no differently then as if your walking down the street.

One thing is certain, there are from my POV, no clear answers. One thing I have at least determined, but think goes without saying is if you have a LTC/CHL from the state, or at least one with reciprocity your in much better shape carrying/transporting on a motorcycle then if you don’t have a LTC/CHL.

Obviously some motorcycles have little to no storage, and no lockable storage at all. Other motorcycles do. I have a Harley Tri-Glide so I have two secure lockable boxes “trunks” on mine, and two non lockable saddle bags that have access while I am riding down the road.

In the two lockable trunks, neither accessible while riding trike. I can secure a handgun loaded or unloaded and locked in either compartment. So I am sure for myself. That would otherwise cover National FOPA.

But what about the legalities of carrying a handgun loaded on your person openly or concealed. What about loaded in the accessible (while driving) non lockable saddle bags?

Most of the internet sites that have extensive information about carrying your handgun, permits, reciprocity, vehicle carry, etc... such as handgunlaw.us but don’t have much if any information in regards to motorcycles or how states view them.

So for those who have motorcycles everything from the basic with no storage to Touring bikes with plenty of lockable storage. What do you do to remain legal?

Also some of us also have motorcycle trailers... trailers that our motorcycle pulls... how do states view those if they are lockable and secure?
