Ok guys I am looking to pick up a Burris fastfire III and I want to mount it to my glock any thing I need to know thanks horsemen61

nope.. buy it, buy the mount kit.. mount it, sight it in. enjoy. OH.. people will call you a cheater cause it makes hitting the target so much easier.

Greg I am fine with being called a cheater as long as it helps hit the target I'm in and I bought it for a really great price

Keep both eyes open and focus on the target, not the dot. Just allow the dot to superimpose itself on the target.

Most people try to sight thru them like a scope, maybe even squinting their off-eye closed, but that's a very slow way to do it.

I have a Burris on one of my 1911's.. I usually hand it to someone and say.. "it's like cheating" they finish and confirm.. "it is like cheating :) "

And if you do so and focus on the dot as if it were a scope reticle, you'll swear the things "don't hold zero".

Both eyes ope focus on the target and let your brain superimpose the dot on the target as you point the pistol, they are wonderful, these old eyes love them!

So how would y'all mount it to the Glock I really don't want to cut the slide so the dovetail mount idea is what I'm looking at

I like the concept of RDS on a pistol. I however, would 1) get an RMR and 2) have the slde milled. This is of course a more expensive route but it is also a better one.

well I don't have the cash for either options 1 or 2 so ill go with my idea thanks

I hope the fast fire works for you and survives the pounding a slide mounted red dot takes. I also hope you never have a failure when you still need sights. Good luck with it andlet us know how it works out.

I'd look at Burris' warranty. I know of even rmr's failing (im actualy aware of itbkilling a few aimpoint t1s). Happily trijicon takes care of it. I don't know about Burris. I wouldn't slide mount a RDS unless it had a very good warranty. I assume if one is unwilling to drop 400-500 dollars on a RDS, he or she would be annoyed to mount a $200 sight and be up a creek if it craps out.

I've many thousands of rounds through a .45ACP pistol with the original FastFire sight. No issues. IMHO the FastFire III is much improved because of the top mount battery and so far has also given no issues.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying it will fail. Rather, that I've seen enough fail including much more durable sights like the T1 that I will certainly say it can fail and any red dot I'd use would need to have a good warranty. That's just me and what I've seen though.

My Burris is holding up fine to riding on a slide, pushing 45 acp.

I did mount mine via the rear sight dovetail mount from Burris. Some day I might machine the slide to permit a direct mount, but so far the Burris mount is fine.

A red dot made to ride on a slide shouldnt be a problem. I shoot bullseye and there are many guys that use the fastfire 2 and 3s without any problems at all. Of course some will fail, thats to be expected with an RDS. I certainly wouldnt hesitate to purchase one, in fact I plan on using one next season on my 1911.

My FF3 is holding up just fine on my .44 mag Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter ... Love it.

I have a fast fire that has thus far lived a happy life on a 12 gauge shotgun that shoots 3" slugs and buck in addition to a fair number of 2 3/4" birdsot. That type of recoil is not the same as side that slams back and forth. Again it is not the case that every RDS will fail when mounted on a slide. Simply that I know of enough of them doing it that it is something to be considered. Particularly if the gun is intended for anything other than a range gun (in which case the features of the FF already make it less than ideal). On a defensive gun I'd rather have irons than the Burris.

Thanks Greg that is what kind of advice I am looking for

I see, you just want people to tell you that what you are already inclined to do is going to be all rainbows and unicorns and there is nothing else to think about. Okay, yes do it just like you planned there is no better way or better sight, and no one ever experiences an issue.

Girodin I am not saying that you are wrong I am just saying at this time I can't afford to have the slide milled and I see your point is that the best way probably but that way doesn't work for me ok yes I understand it can fail I am just asking if anybody else has done it this way and if it worked for them I figure if it will work on a 1911 I shouldn't have any problems not saying I won't I just wouldn't bet on it so thank you for your input
