I just recently bought a savage mark 2 F. I was really excited with my purchase and bought a cheap Simmons ProHunter 3-9x40 ProDiamond scope on the internet as soon as i got home. I did this before I carefully examined the rifle and noticed there werent any scope mounts/bases on the rifle. Im sure you cant put a scope on the rifle if there isnt any mounts correct?. Im new to rifles so my question is how do i get a scope mounted? Do i have to take my rifle to the gunsmith to get it drilled etc? Anyone have an idea how much it would cost?

Does the reciever have a 3/8" wide rib on top, for tip off rings?

Welcome to THR!!:)

The Mark II has dovetails so I'm not sure what the question is. If the Simmons didn't come with rings, any rings that are the right size for the scope tube will fit the dovetails on the receiver.

Sorry I most not completely understand what the dovetails are. There are no holes or anything at all on top of the receiver. I hope this clears things up

Savage MKll has a screw on bases. There maybe some screws plugging the holes but just in front of the ejection port there are two holes and a little ways behind are two holes. Recent MKlls don't use groves or dovetails.
Weaver #15, 16, 43, 45 will work you will need two. I use the EGW one piece rail.

Okay I'll have to look again closer whenni get home. Thanks for the help guys

Both my MKIIs have accu triggers, one has grooves, the other has factory installed weaver bases. No knowlege on pre Accu trigger models. Lets hope you have plugged holes:)

I have a pre-Accutrigger that has the 3/8" dovetails. They're out there.

My newer FVT model was drilled and tapped. I added bases and use Warne QD rings for the few times I mount up a scope on it.

My pre accutrigger Savage Mark II has the receiver cut for 3/8" rimfire dovetail mounts. Yours should also has these cuts from the factory. You will need to buy the correct mount for your rifle and scope setup.
