Just purchased a Nikon P-223 (3 x 32) scope along with a Nikon P-Series mount for my Colt LE6920 SOCOM. Have been relying on my BUIS, but the eyes are now needing some support. Questions: Is their a "right" location on the Picatinny rail to secure the mount? Do I need a tool that calibrates inch/lbs so that I do not over-tighten the mount to the rail? Same when securing the scope to the mount. This is my first scope and would appreciate some advice. Wish to do this project myself, rather than have it done by LGS. Thank you.

Put the scope where ever it is comfortable for you. Usually its toward the front of the receiver with an extended mount like the Nikon.

I have never "torqued" my mounts, I just get them good and snug but not too snug. I know that doesn't help much, but over-tightening will do more harm than under tightening. Tighten all of them equally, and in a pattern like the lug nuts on your car.

Take your time, position it where you want it, and make sure the cross hairs are level.

Good advice. Appreciate the quick response. Understand the consequences of over-tightening. Will follow your advice as applying equal pressure as the tightening of lugs on wheels. Will also make certain cross hairs are level. Thank you very much.
