I just bought a Tikka T3. It did not come with factory rings so I am looking at different mounts. What do you think anybody.

A few questions, then an answer.

1. Is it new? If it is, it should have included rings You probably know that.
2. Is the rifle stainless?
3. Is your scope 1", and around 40 mm in objective size?
4. Do you WANT to mount better rings on your rifle?

Answers:

I used Leupold standards on mine. The bases are a bit higher than normal, so I used low rings for my Zeiss 3-9x40 Conquest and it fits well. I think that mounting system is a bit more secure than the factory rings, which are aluminum and use hex-head bolts.

That being said, if you have a stainless rifle meeting the above criteria, I have a new set of Tikka factory rings that I will send to you if you want them. Probably not quickly, mind you, but after the holidays. They are just setting in my "extra parts" box. PM, if interested, with an address.

Just read on another thread that you bought some Leupold mounts already. Good choice. Hope your rifle shoots well.

I went burris bases and Leupold rings for my 30mm scope. Originally I had DNZ one pieces for the 1" scope. I think I liked that mount the most.

Thanks for the info guys, Am, I sent a pm as my rifle is stainless. I bought rings and bases on eBay but the guy with the bases hasn't shipped like he said so I don't know about them.

I used a Picatinny rail from EGW and Warne rings. The Picatinny rail gives you a lot of flexibility, but it is not very attractive....

Best

DeadNutz makes a nice setup. I saw a Tikka the other day with them on it and liked it. I have 2 Tikka's. One wears the factory rings and the other wears Warne rings.

Ok, d2...you want my rings...they are not free.

For payment, you need to do two things:

1. Do a random act of kindness for someone you think deserving.
2. Tell me the name of the Lone Ranger's nephew's horse. (Google is acceptable)

I await your answer.

Merry Christmas!

The first one is easy, will do. Joy is in the giving. The second was harder. I remember the original shows because I am in my 60's. But I had to look it up. It is Victor, Silver's son.
Thanks AMflyer, well done.

I'd take up the offer for free rings. They are not bad, with one cheap modification. I found the screws to be soft, and shallow. I went to Home Depot and bought 6 new screws made of hardened steel for about $3. They worked much better. After that I'd just as soon use the factory rings as anything.

If not I'd put either Talley lightweights or DNZ on it.

Hey, just having some Christmas fun d2. I'll get them heading your way as soon as I am able.

Thanks, guys like to have fun too, lol. I like trivia, but that one did stump me. I must have missed those episodes.

 d2wing why don't u send that poor excuse for a rifle to me and I'll put rings and a scope on it and let it keep my Featherweight company for , say, 15 years. Like dogs they do better in pairs and ur tikka just might absorb some accuracy and class from the Winny.

Thanks for the offer suprane. Thanks for the rings AMflyer

d2wing. Received my Winchester Feather. Compact and really pleased with the look. The rings and bases I decided on are a EGW base 0 MOA ( .228 " height ) and super low TPS rings ( 0.820 height ) this should put me at approx. 1.6" above centerline bore. My FFL friend and I bore scoped the barrel and there were three micro areas on one of the lands that appeared to be missing, "gouged" out. ?? Not burrs, but missing. One approx. 3" from throat, one mid barrel and one 2.5" from muzzle. What effect will this have, who knows. Maybe none. I had never had any of my barrels scoped before, so who knows what all those ones looked alike ? Anyway, once rings, bases and scope here and all mounted, we'll see if the Winchester will be a good shooter. I sure hope so for I sure like the looks and a buddy of mine in Central, AZ and I are planning a coyote hunt mid February. My " break in " will be a simple one. Initial cleaning per usual way. Then one shot, clean for 8, then 4 groups of three shots and clean, 20 rounds, then scope again and see if anything changed. If she groups nicely and in right pattern, then I am good, if not will contact Winchester and go from there. The only other FN Winchester I owned was a great shooter and never looked in the bore on that one. Fingers crossed and hope a little "Tikka" comes out. :) Will post pictures in future.

Really interested to know what's up with that Model 70. Do you think you might call them before you shoot it? Was it possibly just packing grease crud that came out when you cleaned it?

Doc7: No it wasn't packing grease. Soon as we saw those " missing" areas from the lands ( about 1/32nd to 1/16th ) we cleaned the barrel and looked again, still there, or should say something gone. Only those three tiny areas on just one of the edges on one land. Everything else sharp and smooth. Did some homework and on factory barrels not uncommon and may not affect accuracy in the least. Still getting scope here and changed mind on rings and bases, it will be a couple of weeks before everything here, set up and then to the range. Will post more later. Do you have a 70 ?
