Yeah, if it was only one year I'd just get an apartment in AR and never move in the first place.
But, I think the first thing you need to do if you are going to move and are interested in all the options is check with the movers and make sure they will even move guns. I had a friend/coworker who relocated last year, and the two items the movers refused to move were firearms and alcohol (liquor, wine, etc... no idea why. I guess firearms and alcohol could potentially be illegal at the destination and to avoid any criminal charges from, say, bringing an AR15 to Cali, they just make blanket policies... that is my only guess.) He had his cars and motorcycles shipped, so, he wasn't driving. I ended up basically trading him a metal Plano rifle case for his liquor collection, and he flew from SC to Houston with his two shotguns and one pistol.
If it were me though, I'd let the movers move everything else, and I'd drive the guns there myself, regardless of whether the movers would do it. Not because I'm scared of movers; I just would want the peace of mind that it would all get there without getting banged around too much.
