I have a 740 pound safe that is going to get moved in a couple months (graduating from college and off to dental school).

The last time the safe was moved it was done by some professional movers for $250. They also moved all my household goods across town negating the need for me to rent a truck/move furniture. Anyway, I carefully watched how these three hired guys moved it and I don't see any reason why I couldn't rent/buy a heavy duty handcart like the movers used, get a couple of buddies and move it myself.

The safe will move across about 30ft of carpet floor, out a door, down three steps and then up a ramp into a 8x10ft trailer.

Is this possible? Is there any reason I shouldn't do it myself?

Suggestions and comments appreciated.

You will need a couple of friends to hep you if you don't hire moving men. Moving 740 puonds of steel up or down stairs is not a job you should try alone.

Just be careful.

There are a lot of things that professionals make look easy. When somebody does something all day long, they tend to make it look effortless. Make one mistake, and you could seriously hurt or kill somebody.
