What can I bring and what has to stay? I own a 6 shot 357 revolver, full size M&P 40, 870 Police (holds 5 rounds), and a PSA AR 16".

I know there is a ban on any magazine that holds more than 10 rounds. I know there is a ban on some "assault rifles" by name. Would I be able to put a bullet button on my rifle and call it a day? Are there any handguns on the list?

Oh NO!!!!!! Please say it ain't so! SF has about the most gun-unfriendly environment you could go to, short of DC.
But our California members can give you the skinny on the state laws for firearms. SF likely has it's own set of laws and ordinances.

Follow the instructions here.

The revolver is fine, the shotgun is fine, the pistol should be fine as long as the mag capacity is 10 or less.

The rifle is a bit more complicated. Post on Calguns.net. They specialize in CA law. There's a flowchart that shows what's legal and what's not.

Inside SF city limits is especially tough, it's slightly easier in the suburbs.

Enjoy your move and even better, enjoy a city with some of the best restaurants and weather around. If you can afford to actually live in SF, a few guns will not be your main concern. The Calguns site is the best place to start, IO.

Leave the AR in FL. No EBRs (unless it gets neutered with a bullet button and one of those ugly CA compliant stocks). You can have a Kel-Tec 5.56 or a Ruger Mini-14.

Your M&P better have ten round magazines, otherwise leave them somewhere else (CA law limits to 10).

I hope you stay out of the Hunter Point's District. Watch out for the area east of the War Memorial. There's housing projects there. I'd bicycle by there on Fulton (e/r past Alamo Square), but they tend to leave bicyclists alone (can't catch them unless they're in a car).
