Quick question, I know a ATF Form 5320.20 is required when relocating with an SBR but what about a suppressor on a trust?

I looked around on the ATF site but didn't see anything on the suppressor. Thanks in advance.

They would like you to inform them. Its not required to travel interstate with a silencer. For a permanent change of address use a 5320.20 if and when you do send it in..

Only Destructive Devices, Machine Guns, SBR's and SBS's require a 5320.20

No Federal law or ATF regulation require you to notify them when you travel interstate with AOW's or silencers. Says so on the back of the form.

That's why it's called an "Application to Transport Interstate or to Temporarily Export Certain National Firearms Act (NFA) Firearms".:D

As a matter of law, you're absolutely correct.

As a matter of practice, yugorpk is correct that if you wish to update the the ATF, so that the NFA registry is accurate, they insist you do it using the 5320.20. That's not the proper purpose of the form, and it used to be that you could just send them a letter, but now they want suppressor address updates on that form.

That's the government for you.

Funny, year before last, NFA Branch told me NOT to use the 5320.20

Yup.

Ive always used a 5320.20 for moving everything NFA and I move for work somewhat frequently . Theyve never had any problem with it and filling out the back of a napkin never seemed appropriate.

My BATFE contact said I needed to send in the form for a permanent change of address so I did.

If you already have an approval, you will file a 5320.20 and indicate permanent change of address for reasoning on the form. I have attached that to this e-mail. You will need to send that in to us and we will issue back the approval to your address.
