I have been researching the Montana Rifle Co. X2 rifle (a short action .308 is my preference); I would appreciate feedback on any experiences with this Co., products or this specific model of rifle. For the price point, it reads to be a real value for the money (a little over $1,100 on the net). I would go get a hands on experience but the closest dealer is a 240 mile (round trip) drive for me. Thanks for your help.

I can't speak about the X2 specifically, but i've had a left handed M-99 in .243 for six or seven years now and love it. It's more accurate than i am. I ordered the barreled action from MRC (fast twist fluted barrel, LH action), and ordered an Accurate Innovations aluminum chassis stock in a nice Walnut. At the time, there were no OEM left handed stainless offerings on the market. Today there are a few more options.

FWIW, if you're not in a rush, you may want to consider this:
I also have a LH CZ Model 3 in .300WSM. They were built by MRC under contract for CZ and also use the M99 action. They were "gun of the year" for some gun rag back circa 2004. They did a limited production run. IIRC, CZ needed to produce guns in the USA to import others, and this was their work-around. Most CZ rifles are in the 5-700 range, and few people know this backstory. Although i already had a New Haven M70 in 300WSM. I found and bought the CZ Model 3 on Gunbroker.com for a song. Less than half the cost of a MRC M99. I guess everyone else was asleep at the switch!

Every now and then I see a CZ Model 3 on Gunbroker, and they are generally undervalued IMHO. Good luck with it.

Thank you desidog. The website that has a very good inventory of MRC X2’s (and good pricing) does not allow an inspection period - no credits and no returns. I don’f mind the money as long as the fit, finish, detail, cosmetics etc., are there - my expectations are high as I have an anal tendency toward my firearms. What is your perspective of the MRC fit/ finish/ detail etc. (as if I order from this provider, I cannot return it if there is a flaw)? Thanks.

With my 243 M-99 pictured above; i ordered the barreled action and the stock from two different purveyors, and put them together myself. No problems there. All the metal from MRC is good.

On the CZ Model 3, i just wasn't in love with the factory stock. (I have forgotten who made it for MRC.) I restocked with a New Haven Winchester M70 stock from CDNN; they were on sale for like 60$. (and bedded with Brownell's Acraglass.) My only complaint, and its not a big one, is that there is just a little play between the floor plate and the bottom metal. It's just a few thousandths, and the magazine spring keeps everything tight so theres no noise, etc, but i mention it because it is less than prefect. However, i imagine that with MRC's name on the rifle and not CZ's, MRC wouldn't let it out the door like that.

ETA: i recall a few months go there was a thread here about someone complaining about the lack of polish and machining inside the receiver of their MRC rifle, but can't find it now with the search function.
