Apparently he called the founders of Midway and Brownells "merchants of death" and posted their pictures and hometowns in an attempt to publically shame them for their support of the NRA.

You can expect a lot more of this in the future. The media will be beating the drum that anyone who likes or owns guns is the same as a child murderer (unless they also support taking other people's guns away to save their own naturally). It will be important that each of takes the time to point out both the idiocy and the inherent evil in this line of thought and not back down from attempts to bully us into silence.

Maybe. But I'm inclined to believe that -- just as we're already seeing with the political maneuvering, and even the beginning of the subsidence of the panic, this will fade pretty rapidly.

Sure, many media figures are knee-jerk gun banners, but they're ratings hounds first. They can't keep the issue alive once it goes cold again, and won't be likely to even try.

I'd predict by the mid-to-late spring we won't be seeing any of these stories any more.

I think somebody said it here already. They are going to try to do with guns what was done with drunk driving...or at least use the same tactic. When I was young, hell, driving drunk for most accidents was almost considered a mitigating factor "well he couldn't help it, he was drunk"...it was pretty bad. It certainly carried little or no stigma. Through a campaign waged in the media, lawmakers took it up the law, the public changed their attitudes about it, and it is whole different kettle of fish than it was 30 years ago.

The problem is, obviously, driving drunk is a serious problem...gun ownership is not. I suppose it somehow the media and the MADD type people tried to sway American opinion about running around shooting innocent people instead of vilifying the gun, we might have something. You'll notice MADD did not advocate the prohibition of either alcohol or motor vehicle...they advocated against a behavior.

As I have said already, there is a huge 2nd Amendment vacuum in the middle...a vacuum of apathy...lots and lots of people just really don't care much one way or another. Everything from what I hear called "Fuds" (hunters who's only use for a gun is hunting), to what I just call city people who just don't care. 3 months ago, a lot of those people hit gun control polls with a NO vote simply because they figure it's a freedom issue (about which of course they were correct). Today they are hitting the YES button because it is an emotional issue.

My fear is that a fairly small number of these people with bother to come back and that this whole "Mothers Against Guns" type of approach will in fact turn public opinion. Not sure how this will play out.

I will say, that many die-hard liberals realize that MSNBC is the polar opposite of FOX and that they may not give it much weight. But keep piling on the straws and the camels back may break.

I am in agreement with Sam.
However,as crazy as this world is there is more than a chance it could be anyday that the media treks off to the next crisis such as the one in Algeria or some sort of horrible terrorist attack in Paris, etc.

If true (I didn't witness it), then a pox on that idiot.

And we should all order something today from Midway and Brownell's....whatever is left there, that is.

I say let them do this nonsense. It only makes their opposition stronger, because people who see this nonsense say "Hey my brother has an NRA membership, and he's a fine guy...what the heck!"

Both sides of this debate have extremists, and they're doing no good to their cause.

I see what you're saying, but consider that WE'VE essentially pulled off the same effect, in reverse, over the last 20 years. From the bad old days of the '80s and early '90s we've managed to push through concealed carry in almost all the states, opened up various previously closed areas to lawful gun possession, and seen huge explosions in acceptance of "black rifles" and handguns as normal things for folks to own and use.

There is (up to the current kerfuffle) NOTHING like the public support for banning guns that there was back in the days of K-Mart being publicly shamed into stopping gun sales and Dianne Fiensten's "shoulder thing that goes up" quote.

As for media personalities being able (and having the attention span) to work long enough and hard enough to cause a swing back in national opinion? I really don't see it. If it bleeds it leads, and once gun control stops being a topic that "bleeds" (grabs public attention), they'll leave it behind as just another past headline.

I ordered more ammo from Midway this past Wednesday.
So I did my part.

Let's just hope we can go long enough without a similar incident for this to happen. I don't want to think of what things would be like if another elementary school gets shot up by a crazy with an "assault weapon" during the next couple of months.

Eh, maybe. There's always that chance. But we've had what...4-5 nationally reported attacks (including one on a US Senator!) in recent memory and this is the first "serious" call for gun control? And it's turning out to be DOA? Anything's possible, but I don't see it.

Just look at the war on smoking.
There's the road map
Right...but post 7 applies just as much to the smoking example as the drunk driving suggestion.

WE'RE the ones who've hammered the PR campaign over the last 20 years. The anti- side comes out looking more like Philip Morris in your example. ("The claims that [strikE]smoking [/strike] gun control is bad for you are still unproven ...")

Chances are if your watching MSNBC you have already formed your opinion about Gun Rights. And, its most likely not supporting the 2nd Amendment or the Constitution. Pretty much news for Kool-Aid drinkers.

Just more proof that the MSM as a whole cannot be reasoned with. It's all-out war and the MSM will not be content to watch as our Bill of Rights is put through the ringer- rather, they'll be right there doing everything they can do to speed its demise.

And that's what's so interesting about this one. What I'm waiting to see is if they kick it into even higher gear the next time it happens, or if we'll be back to where we were when Aurora/Virginia Tech etc. happened where we get a week or two of a few people in the news mentioning gun control a few times and then it peters out.

Really, what was different about this time? The fact that it was an elementary school? The fact that the elections were over and a democratic president was in his second term? What exactly?

I cannot personally vouch for the Brownells, but Larry P is good people. I enjoy supporting both companies.

It appears that the tide is turning. Time to turn up the heat on our end of the stick.

I for one and completely fed up with kind of attack. I say we take the gloves off and counterattack in kind. If they cross a line, sue them. When they walk up to the line, push them back.

We have plenty of talented people on our side. YouTube ads showing the "usual suspects' in government and the media in SS uniforms herding gun owners into the gas chambers. Billboards showing the same images.

Ads showing the dead rotting in the fields of Cambodia...fading to images of the Branch Dividian compound burning. Billboards and ads showing comparing these media figures to Julius Striecher and Joseph Goebbels.

They don't own all the media outlets like they did in 1994. We have the new media. We need to really use it.

The antis are fit to be tied over the NRA's ad saying Obama is a hypocrite for sending his kids to a school with armed guards but dismissing it as a solution for the rest of the country. The only defense they have against that is to cry foul, unfair!! Whenever we hit their soft underbelly like that we need to pile on and keep hitting it again and again. It's time to counterattack!! No war is won by fighting defensive battles. We need to take the fight to them and with the new media we can!!

Oh man...you should of seen it! When he was going off on Tom Selleck you would of thought he was auditioning for the lead dramatic role in the next big blockbuster movie. It was so laughable that only a total moron could have taken him seriously. I even thought HE was going to break up and start laughing right in the middle of running his lines.
