Do any of you have several calibers on the same platform (I.E. 1911 in 9,45and 40 or AR in 223,6.8 and 458)? Is it ever a consern to run into problems with an accidental mix of equipment (45 cal gun and 9 mags and ammo) ? How would you keep your ready supply and odd caliber supplys separated?

I'm asking because I've got my eye on a 223 AK but I don't want to end up with 223 mags and ammo mixed up with 7.62X39 stuff. The 223 could turn into the house gun and I'm probably going to a M70A2 (7.62) for a trunk gun.
I'd stick with 7.62X39 but good HP stuff is hard to get and 223 is proven to beak up on walls etc so your not blasting thru the whole building.

Yep and Nope... my Contender doesn't use mags... no biggie...

My Smitty semi-auto's DO use basically interchangable mags (at least between .40 and 9MM) so I pay atention to what I grab...

BTW, 15 round 9MM Smitty mas make FINE 12 or 13 round .40 mags... (it depends on follower design), and are more common than the factory 11 round .40 mags...

I have Glocks in 10mm and .40S&W. I have 1911s in .22lr, 10mm and .45acp. I have Sigs in .40S&W and .45acp. And I have S&W revolvers in .38spl, 10mm, .44 Magnum, and .500 Magnum. For the most part, each firearm has destinct characteristics and asily confusable with each other.

I also reload and have always been careful to mark each reloaded box with the caliber ammo. To be honest, I've never really given the problem of using the wrong ammo much thought. It's all about being careful and attentive to what you are doing.

The only problem I ever had was when a friend loaded a .40S&W into my HK USP and fired it. It deformed the case with a quick flash out of the breech. Absolutely NO damage to the HK. IThis has taught me to always be attentive to what others are doing also.

Just make sure you pack any loose ammo in seperate boxes and pay attention to what you are doing when loading your mags (e.g. NOT loading mag while talking on phone, eating a sandwich and watching tv) as well as to what others are doing if they use your stuff and you should be just fine.
