In considering my next few purchases I'd rather have a well rounded collection than a lot of one type. So Far I have:
Ruger_______10/22______________.22LR
Ruger_______Mini -14____________.223
Springfield___M1A Loaded _________7.62/.308
Remington___700 CDL____________.30-06
Stag________AR-15 M4___________5.56/.223
Stag________AR-15 M2___________5.56/.223
Marlin_______1894SS____________.44 mag

I was looking to add over the next 6 months:
Ruger________Mini -30____________7.62/39
Springfield ____Scout_____________7.62/.308
Winchester____70________________7mm Mag
AK__________AK-47______________7.62/39
Remington_____700______________.270, 7m-08
Marlin________1894_____________ .357 mag
AI ___________AW______________.338 Lapua Magnum

Is there a caliber, model or rifle I'm missing or anyone would recommend? I'm open to all calibers & manufacturers. I realize there isn't a Savage on the list either. And I'm NOT interested in any more AR's 2 is enough for now.

Thank you:)

.243, 6.5-284 (or 06), 7mm-08, 7mmRem Mag, .300WBY, .356Win, possibly something larger, but there's plenty out there, so keep looking and enjoy your journey.

Milsurps such as Enfield 303, Springfield 1903 or 1917 in 30-06, Garand or other allied arms.

Nice Ruger # 1 or since you mentioned Savage how about a single shot Savage, or Thompsen Center Contender with a variety of barrels/cals.

You also need to have some offering from Browning, say perhaps a BLR81 in .308, or an A-Bolt in 30-06 (you really need to have at least 2 guns in each cal:D.

Really there are just so many great guns.

Do you plan on any shotguns in the collection?

If so, I'd say either a Remington 870 in 12 guage or a Mossberg 590 (?) is one of those "must haves."

And handguns? I'm thinking a 1911A1 or Browning High Power would be on a lot of people's must have list.

As far as rifles go, you have a good collection of "Must Haves."

As people are already mentioning, some milsurps would round you out. Since no one has mentioned it, I'll add a Finnish Mosin Nagant M28/30 or M39 to the list.

get someithing in the most common cals
such as
243, 762.39
762.54 russian
6.5 swedish.
Not only are all these very versatile rounds, and will fill all your niche hunting and
long range shooting, but they are inexpensive.

Do you plan on any shotguns in the collection?
YES but this thread is only for rifles.

I'l do shotguns later. I already have a 870 but will be looking at Beretta, Benelli and others mainly for shooting skeet. Also I have a plenty of Pistols & revolvers and know what I want in the future there as well. It's rifles for today's exercise.

Thanks

sounds good then Glockman. Just thought I'd ask.

Then I'd definately say that milsurps would round you out.

-Mosin Nagant while they are still cheap. (or a Finn)
-.303 Enfield. Ammo isn't all that cheap anymore.
-Mauser. I'd love to have a K98. Ammo is getting more scarce.
-Swiss K31. Ammo is kinda expensive.

- You've mentioned it on your list already, and I'd add an AK in 7.62x39 to your collection.

- I may get hunted down and shot for this, but I'm not a big fan of the SKS. But some would suggest getting one.

- I'd love to have a 1903 Springfield in my collection.

- I think it is required by law to have a Garand in any milsurp collection.

- I heard that Browning was going to discontinue the A-Bolt and rumor has it that they'll be bringing in a new model. I'd perhaps get one of those while you can-- if you like the rifle.

Calibers, I am with Rangerruck on that. A lot of common calibers for availability of ammution:

7.62x39
.223
.308
7mm
7.62x54R

If you get into some of the calibers that are more expensive, or are harder to find, getting into reloading could be an avenue that you may or may not have considered.

I can see how reloading could make life easier for guys with .303 British, 6.5 Swiss, 8mm Mauser (if things go as it seems to be going). Hell, I am planning on starting to make life easier for me with .308. A lot of the 5.56 guys are getting this way, too.

oh , one more thing, another rimfire, you need something in 17mach 2, not 17 hmr, as mach 2 ammo is 1/3rd the price, but will smoke a 22lr all day long.

I would consider something chambered in .45-70.

Another nice round that is missing from your list is the .300Win Mag.

Depending on what type of shooting you like, I would suggest a .223 or 308 bolt action target/varmint rifle, Savage 12 series comes to mind.

The AK, PSL, K31, K98 and mosins aren't going to get any cheaper, and all are fun shooters with the PSL, K31 and K98 being quite accurate.

M1 garand, bring that M1A's pappa home:D

the AI is a great competition rifle, Sako TRG is also nice for 1000+ yard target or competition work, but both are quite pricey, especially to shoot. The new savage 12-F class in 6.5X284 is a practical bargain. But if you can afford one, a Barrett or AI in 50bmg or intervention in 408 Cheytac are must haves for the millionaire gun nut.

A decent reloading setup to feed them (if you don't have one already) rolling your own target loads brings a whole new hobby into the mix.

looks to me as if you are fairly well set-up. I would recommend a Marlin Camp .45 or 9 or other pistol caliber carbine but you have the 2 lever guns. a shooting buddy has the Marlin .357 which I admire and he wants but can't find a Marlin Camp .45 so we razz each other about trading those 2 with 'boot'

Since you odviosuly have a lil cash to spend (.338 Lapua), why not step up to the plate with a .470NE?

Seriously though a MN of any sort (or every sort), a K31, a 98K, an Enfield. DSA makes an FAL in .260 that I've been drooling over for months. A 45-70 and 30-30. Or if you're like me and prefer to stand out in a crowd, a 38-55 lever action. A pump action .45LC would also be fun. All sorts of AK's to be had, you have little diversity in your AR's, Garands, Springfields, CETME's, PTR 91's, etc. The list could go on forever.

For a "just to have", I'd opt for the Winchester M70 in 7mm Mag. But, I've noticed you've a lack of medium/big bore cartridges. Maybe something in 45-70 or a 338 Win Mag? Just a thought.

Defintiely get a couple milsurps, so much bang for the buck there (ie - they're thrifty as well as tough!)

Yugo SKS in 7.62x39 runs around $170 or so right now.
Mauser K98 runs around $130 for a Yugo post-war to $250 maybe for a real German one.
Mosin Nagant M44, M38, or 91/30 run around $70 right now.

You can get all these and more for these cheap kind of prices by getting your C&R (FFL03) license if you don't already have it. Best $30 I ever spent.

Not a cz on the list. You are engaging in self-deprivation :). Consider a 527 carbine in 7.62x39. At least go handle one. If you spend a little time with one you will have it I guarantee!

Any .30

M1 M14 HK91 any .30

:D

i would also recommend an ak in 5.45x39 ammo is the cheapest of any of the other calibers that the ak can be had in.

The .17 HMR is a really fun little round.

2500 feet per second and a great ballistic coefficient makes a super flat shooting little round that doesn't kick any more than a .22.

Mine will shoot an inch and a half to an inch and three quarters at 200 yards.

We don't have a lot of varmint shooting here in Houston, but the folks that get to do that swear by the .17.

If you are going to have a collection of rifles, I recommend that you throw a 17 hummer in there!
