I finally got it. I've been reading all kinds of great reports on the Kahr K series pistols and decided I'd go ahead and take the plunge. I ended up trading in my wife's Glock 26 w/Meps and my Kimber 45 on a P9 for her and K9 for me. It was well worth it! I took them home and cleaned & lubed them both and proceeded out the back door to give em' a try.

I was totally impressed with how solid and well-made the K9 is. Its like there is no wasted metal on this thing. The simplicity of its design combined with its thin profile make it just a thing to behold. I haven't had chance to really "wring it out" yet so I don't have a report on its accuracy. I normally carry a Glock 19 in my Brommeland MaxConIII (and still will) but I can see that my primary will be my Kahr. First, though, I will have to get the night sites and holster for it.

1. Any recommendations for a Kahr custom holster maker out there? I prefer horsehide.
2. Any recommendations for night sites? I use Meps on my Glock but they seem a bit high profile for my little Kahr. Was thinking of a lower profile set of night sites.

For night sights, whatever you choose, have them install by Kahr.
Kahr had early problems with sights being too loose.

They fixed THAT.....BIG TIME.
Kahr sights are pressed in with some King Kong sight press, and most of them are so tight, even gunsmiths with heavy-duty sight presses can't get them to budge.

The Kahr factory sights are VERY nice, as are the holsters they sell.
Check their web site.

Be SURE to give your new Kahr's the factory recommended 200 round break-in.

The factory Mepro's are very nice, but the factory install left something to be desired. My MK40's front sight fell off at about the 100rnd mark. Now in fairness to Kahr, they took care of it very quickly. I had the gun back within 7 days from the factory. my gun is only 3 months old so maybe they have fixed the problem, I hope. Enjoy your new guns, I reallly like mine.

Factory installation necessary?

Is it necessary to have the factory install them or can I get my gunsmith to do it? I've noticed a number of people have sent their guns to Kahr to get them installed.

Greg

Talk to your gunsmith, and see what he says.

I will say, that a good many gunsmith's SORELY regretted taking on a Kahr sight change.

Several I know ended up CUTTING the old sights out of the dovetail.
Others have had no problems at all.

All I can say is, Kahr will do it right, and if not, will correct it ASAP.

Your local 'smith may take it on, get into trouble, and either botch it up, or give it back to you so you can send it in to Kahr.
In this case, you may have either a damaged gun, or have wasted time, and possibly voided the warranty.

On the other hand, he may have no problems.

You pays you money, and 'ya takes yor chances.

I installed night sights that I ordered from Kahr on my Kahr PM9, it was a bitch but not at all impossible. The following is done with the slide separated from the frame in a well padded vise.
The original sights are very hard to remove but can be knocked out from left to right (install them from right to left) using a light hammer and a drift punch. The front sight broke off it's base while being knocked out and the rear sight got pretty well dinged up during it's removal, neither could be used again.
The new front Trijicon night sight had to have the base sanded down considerably to get it to start in the dove tailed slot. I sanded it down by rubbing the sight base in a figure eight pattern on semi-course crocus cloth, it took a lot of patience and time. After I sanded it down I put a liberal amount of blue Lock Tight in the slot and gently tapped the sight into place using a brass drift punch and light hammer. Wipe off the excess Lock Tight and the front sight is good to go.
The rear sight which is a Novac night sight was easier to install but also had to be sanded a little but not as much as the front. The Novac is secured in place with an Allen Head set screw which also should have some blue Lock Tight applied to ensure it doesn't back out. After several hundred rounds fired, the sights seem to be holding up just fine.
Something to consider, when you get your sights from Kahr, there is a disclaimer included telling you that if you or a gunsmiths break the sights during installation, they will NOT replace them. My local gunsmith charges $15.00 per sight to install and he also makes you sign a disclaimer that if he breaks them (night sights, not iron sights) he is not responsible.
I don't own a sight pusher but as described above, a mechanically inclined person can do the job but it takes time and patience.

Novak Tritium Bar/Dot sights?

What do ya'll think of the Novak Tritium Bar/Dot sights? Are the pretty good for rapid site aquisition? I like their low profile and snag free design.

Greg

I used the Novak two dot tritium sight, same low profile and snag free design. The bar doesn't make a good "day" sight in my opinion. Also I am getting on in years and the three dot system just works best for me. Regardless of which you choose, the Novac products are hard to beat.

:) I run an XS sights "small" dot tritium on the front of my P9, and a trijicon two dot rear sight. The XS sight has a greater degree of pvc(or whatever the white plastic is) than anyother maker I've found. This way the front sight overshadows the rear in all but very low light conditions, then the tritium comes into play. As far as quality, trijicon makes the tritium sights for XS. Can't help you on holsters because I use Uncle Mikes pocket or blade-techs iwb.

My E-9 rides in a Bianchi Minimalist 105. Works fine and is a high ride, as I like it.
My question for you is how is the trigger on your new K-9? My 7 year old E-9 is smooth and stack free. I have'nt tried a new one lately, but I have heard that Kahr has changed them now and they stack a bit before breaking. ???
I shot mine yesterday after an IDPA match and at 25yds put 5 in the A zone 3 in the C zone and had one flier. Not bad for a 3 1/2 incher.
Yes I was using an IPSC target.

It has one of the finest triggers I've ever tried. Certainly better than any double action trigger. No stack whatsoever. Smooth and consistent all the way through. The only drawback I can identify is that the reset is longer than I'm accustomed to but that's a matter of training and is much easier for me to deal with than is stacking. Everyone I've let try it are amazed. There is not a single "loose" feeling part in that gun. When that trigger breaks and the striker hits there is nothing in that gun that vibrates as far as I can tell. Someone else on this list described it best when they said it iis built like a Swiss watch.

I have about 12 leather, kydex, and nylon holsters for a K9 and a K40. I like the $15 Uncle Mike's Number 1 pancake the best. Flat, thin, light, perfect fit, and cheap. Yeah. It's all about the comfort and fit.
