I just picked up a used Kahr K9 in 9mm. Seems to be a very accurate gun. If I can learn how to pull the trigger :banghead: correctly it will be a valuable addition.

Question # 1; How can I tell the Manufacture date? Is the serial number (AEXXX) coded, ie: AE = 2004?

Question #2; Is there a trick and /or easy way to disassemble these. The side release pin takes a bit of effort to pop out, more that a finger push. I had a hard time hold the slide open with one hand and trying to remove the pin with a tool. There has to be a better way. Seems to require three hands.

Question #3; The trigger seems smooth, albeit quite long, up to the last 1/8 inch, then takes alot of pressure to finally release. Is this a normal Kahr trigger?

Question #4; This gun came with regular sights. Any recommendation on night sights that will fit the K9?

Thanks.

Normal

I have a set of Truglo's on mine and they work incredible!!!

I bought mine used and the guy had alot of work done to it including a trigger job. It is normal for the trigger to be LONGGGGG because that is it's safety. I don't believe you can shorten the travel, but maybe someone can reply on that part.

It wasn't the travel that surprised me, I have other DAO guns, it was the last bit of hard pull that was unexpected. It throws me a curve when trying to do slow aimed shots.

Pull the slide back to the notch and put the right side of the gun on your kitchen counter or other hard, flat surface. Now just press the entire gun down to pop it out. That's how I do my Kahrs. I have meprolights on mine and they're very bright.

Kahr's are "picky" about disassembly. You have to have the slide in EXACTLY the right spot or it won't come apart.
DO NOT try to force anything.

As an aid, Kahr sells a plastic disassembly block that holds the slide in the right position:

Look under accessories.

The Kahr trigger does "stack" just a little at the very end. That's the point where the firing pin lock is being disengaged.
You might try a deep clean of the slide to remove any fouling.

For night sights, you're best to send the slide in to Kahr to have them install them.
The Kahr sights are usually installed so tight, ordinary sight tooling can't get the old ones out or the new ones in.
Some gunsmiths have had to actually cut Kahr sights out.
Kahr early on had a problem with loose sights, and they fixed the problem by making the sights well over sized and installing them with a monster custom built press device.

Kahr installs night sights for a very competitive price and they do it RIGHT.
