On another thread, it was suggested that I get a Muzzle Brake or Kick Eez for the .300 Win Mag that I am planning to buy. It will probably be the Remington 700 Sendero SF II. So, how do I go about finding/installing a muzzle brake and how much will it cost? Also, what is kick eez? If you have any pics/additional advice regarding muzzle brakes and such, please add them to your post(s). Thanks.

I have several rifles with brakes on them. My favorite is the KDF brake. Your local gunsmith can put you one on. The price usually runs $175 - $200. With the KDF brake on my .300RUM it kicks like a .243, also With the brake you shouldn't need a better recoil pad.
The one down side is brakes are loud. I don't mind the noise but I do warn other shooters when at the range.

You might also consider having the barrel "ported". I have an 8mm Mauser that I "sporterized" and I ported the barrel myself (It was and experiment in "gunsmithing 101"). With the porting, a cheapo recoil pad, and a fairly heavy stock the gun has virtually NO recoil (actually its about the same as my 9mm Hi-point carbine). I can shoot it all day, without feeling any effects.

Try these guys.

I have one, and have shot rifles with them and others. They work as advertized and are one of if not the best. Beware though, all rifle brakes are loud! Wear muffs and plugs if possible. The answer brake I have will blow note papers, ect off the bench with the redirected blast if it isn`t nailed down. It also triggers my Pact crony with the shock wave hitting the table unit, and affects the guy on the next bench. :cuss: They work but have draw backs.

A Thought

If you hunt from the ground, especially prone, be sure to get a break with a solid bottom or you will be eatting a lot of dirt! Even if hunting from the ground in a seated position, the distance is close enough that the blast will still kick up a lot of dirt. It is not near as bad as prone, but, again, you'll eat dirt. My bi-pod for hunting was 27" and I still kicked up dirt. Just a thought.

Additionally, shoot the rifle first. I am not one of those people who loves being abused by a rifle, but I have found no need for a break on my Sendero (300WM also). The weight of this platform alone helps to minimize the felt recoil. It approaches uncomfortable shooting 210gn SMKs at 3,000ish

I sold a Sendero in 300wm due to recoil. I developed a flinch and couldn't shoot it well. My last 300wm was a Ruger 77 which had far less recoil than the Remington with the exact same ammo. I thought it was strange too. The guy who bought the Remington had it ported too.
