I guess a brake is a specialized accessory that doesn't appeal to everyone, nor is it necessary in every situation. Guys are focusing on only one factor of "recoil" here, and while IME the brakes I have used have ameliorated the perceived recoil, for me the greatest benefit of a brake is that it minimizes muzzle deflection, both giving the benefit of faster followup shots in midrange to magnum rifles, AND (most importantly IMO) allowing you to gain accuracy through proper follow-through... i.e. keeping your eye on the sights/target, and allowing you to see where your shot lands through your scope. This also allows for any corrections you may need in the event of a follow up shot.
Just my experience.
There. Fixed that sentence before you guys do.
I had a couple AK74's, and I remember one day shooting one with and without that huge brake on it. I could not detect any difference in the muzzle jump, accuracy, or other performance gained by that brake. I also have a Cooley Compensator on my PTR91 I used in 3 gun stuff. It does indeed make a difference.
