So I am looking for a compensator for my mini-30. No large problems with felt recoil but as many know the mini 30 has some accuracy problems. The two largest and cheapest fixes I have seen so far both on the forums and first hand is a good bedding job and an over-sized muzzle compensator. These are the two muzzle compensators I have looked at the JP Large Profile compensator and the PRI Muzzle Brake Quiet Control 5/8"-24 . They seem almost identical but there is a $25 gap between the two. I almost want to say that the JP looks to be larger and would add more weight to the barrel to aid in accuracy but if the PRI is just as large and effective why waste the $25. Again the only reason I am really looking at the compensators to start with is for accuracy's sake. My Shooting buddy threw the JP on his rifle and his groupings with the same ammo shrank on average 1.2" at 100 yards with the exception of Remington ammo.

What do the rest of yall think. Please no yelling about it won't do squat to your accuracy blah blah, I've heard it enough from my father in-law.

I would be quite reluctant to assume adding a break would be the cause of an increase in accuracy. I suppose if it had another muzzle device before the break that maybe somehow hurt accuracy then the break maybe could have just solved that problem by removing the other device? But even that is a stretch. When you say it decreased his groups, what do you mean? Like he managed to pull of a single good three round group or he fired multiple five round groups before and again after, with the exact same ammo, and then compared?

Muzzle devices do not increase accuracy... They really don't. The reason competitive shooters use them is to decrease muzzle jump for faster follow up shots. High caliber rifles use them to decrease felt recoil (and muzzle jump), but they aren't used to increase accuracy.

If you're looking to experiment for the sake of accuracy, I'd suggest a Limbsaver Barrel Deresonator as an inexpensive start followed by a custom bloop tube made from a scrap section of rifle barrel. I think your ears will thank you and you may in fact see improvement in accuracy.

ok, just what i figuered. The limbsaver sounds like a good idea. I will check that out. The problem with the mini series is the reverb of the barrel. There are a lot of devices out there to minimize it and most only help a little. The 2 best things you can do with the barrel is cut it down to 16.4" or add an over sized muzzle comp to add weight to the end. Both seem to work quite well, then once you bed the mini you do away with the "fly aways" and shrink your group some more.

So, that is how it effects the accuracy, with that in mind which is the better option.(the original question that still remains unanswered)

Well the tube is nothing more than an extension that allows the bullet to stabilize but would also add weight without increasing noise. If you feel you must go with a break, choose either or.
