I've got a barrel that I'd like to properly crown. I cut it, and de-burred the crown myself not long ago, and it shoots just fine. Still accurate, but it doesn't look as nice as I'd like, because the face of the muzzle isn't completely flat. I'm looking around at various cutters and expense, and I'm wondering... Could I get by using an 11* reamer to give an 11* angle from the crown, all the way out to the edge of the muzzle? Is there any reason why that wouldn't work?

Thanks.

Yes.

Unless you have a very solid lathe, with a four-jaw chuck to center the bore, and also hold the reamer stationary on a tailstock??

The reamer will chatter and your crown will be destroyed before you can possibly cut it 11 degrees all the way to the outside edge.

But if you had that lathe?
You wouldn't need to try to cut the crown with a reamer.

That's what I was so poorly trying to tell you, I guess!

Apparently that didn't work?

So don't, it won't!

How's that??

I got it the first time.

I'll try to play into your sarcasm a little better next time.
