I had a great time on the Utah MZ hunt this year and managed to take a nice mature mulie with my muzzloader. In fact this makes 3 bucks in the last 4 years of hunting. The buck was taken on the opening morning with a 100 yard shot. I use a saboted Hornady XTP .44 240 gr. in front of two 50 gr. pydrodex pellets. The slug passed completely through the chest cavity of the deer and was not recovered. Got the deer dressed and loaded on my ATV and was in camp skinning by noon.
I hunt the North Slope of the Uinta Mountians which is absolutely gorgeous and fairly high elevation (our camp was at 8860'). Was camping for 10 full days and loved every minute of it. The weather was unseasonally warm which made it necessary to take the deer to the closest town, (Mt. View Wyoming) to get it processed. I am munching on the tastiest jerky I have ever had as I type this. Good luck to you folks back east still waiting on your seasons to open.

Corey:

That's a dandy buck and taken with open sights, too. BRAVO!

I bought a box of Harvester sabot cups and press my Hornady XTP bullets into place. 240 grainer is a great bullet. Tissue damage is quite ghastly, indeed.

Nice buck and that is some beautiful background in the bottom pic. I have a cousin that lives in Ogden that has been trying to get me up there to hunt. Your pictures just may help convince me to go.

Thanks for the kind words. The best part of this beautiful country is that you and I own it. It's all national forest land as far as you can see. The peaks in the far distant are also part of the High Uintas Wilderness area. 100% roadless unspoiled nature at it's best.

Congrats on the fine buck. I have hunted with the 240 grain .430 XTP bullet for many years. Have killed dozens of hogs and about 20 white tail deer with that bullet. It does a fine job.
