So obviously, purchases for '07 are over.

I basically want to round out my collection in 08 just in case we get into a situation where some legislation makes our lives more difficult as far as legal purchases are concerned. Of course, I'm trying to keep up with the fight to maintain recognition of our 2A right, but just in case I want to be prepared.

I have several Glocks (sub-compact, compact, and standard size), two standard AR's, a Smith 642, and a .22lr rifle and pistol

for 08 what do you think of the following:

- a P3AT (got rid of my last one, I think my mistake was getting a parkerized one, I should have gotten hard chrome)
- A Kahr PM40
- more Glock mags
- more AR mags
- a quad rail system (hopefully one that free-floats the barrel) for both ARs, as well as maybe a forward grip for both (although I probably wouldn't use it to be honest)
- a Glock 35 to use for competition
- a shotgun (not sure which) - although I'm thinking Rem 870
- Smith 442 (just to have a second J-frame)
- 1911 pisol, maybe 2 as it would be nice to have a small one (like a Springfield EMP) and a regular sized one (I was thinking STI perhaps)

and that's it. I know it's a lot.... probably half of that will spill into '09 if possible. Although of course that would defeat the purpose. I probably could swing things so that I could afford all of it outright, but it would be a squeeze I'll admit.

anyways.... Anything extraneous? Did I not cover anything?

Don't laugh at me. :p .... and if you're somebody from the Brady Campaign - don't freak out or anything.

ETA: forgot the mention the 1911

ha! although I can never tell.... maybe you're serious.

I mean, the likelihood of ever needing this much stuff is next to none.... but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be nice to own. Then again, some members here probably buy more gun stuff in a year than I'll ever own.

If you are worried about maximizing your buying before possible legislation, I think you'd be better off skipping the Kel-Tec, the PM40, shotgun, and the 442. Possibly even the Glock, as there will likely be a reduced capacity version for sale.

But really, buy what you want.

I second Jorg's motion. Everything you listed there will likely be available no matter what. Think big.

-Sans Authoritas

I was worried that maybe.... just maybe.... there might be an attempt to ban sale of all semi-autos.

As, I believe, Obama supports. I doubt it would happen... but just in case.

but assuming that won't happen for a moment, you guys are saying I'd be better served focusing on stuff that would be the attention of a possible AWB? Like maybe a FAL for example. Or, that new Keltec .308 which I don't even think is out yet.

Your purchases do not reflect much concern for another AWB. Most of those items will be available with another ban like the last one. I doubt we will see a blanket ban on handguns or such in the next few years.

I am working on the assumption that we have a better than even chance of having a gun control friendly president; therefore good chance we have a revived AWB (permanent) by Nov 2009.

In light of that assumption I am putting off all not-at-risk items until I finish my at-risk collection. And I am collecting for a small legacy to pass on to my kids and grandkids. I already have some pistols, revolvers, Garands, bolt actions, and MAK90s, and a good start on the mags for them.

My focus for 2008 and 2009:

- ten more G22/23 mags (for 22 total)
- four AR15 lowers
- forty more AR15 mags (for 80 total)
- Another AK, probably Yugo
- Another 20 AK mags (for 80 total)

After I complete those then I will round out with:

- four AR15 uppers
- Another G23 or two
- Either another couple M1 Garands, or maybe M1As with several mags/clips

Only after I compete all of those will I add any more for-fun revolvers, bolt and lever actions. Hopefully, gun control has become a dead issue, but I feel that if it somehow passes this time it won't be going away in my lifetime and I want to have everything in place now to pass down for the next generations enjoyment and use.

hmmmm.... I wasn't really thinking AWB except for the quad rail system so that my ARs would be fully outfitted by the time any such ban hit.

I might have to rethink this. The PM40 and Ketlec I don't think would be affected as they're already under 10 round capacity. A 1911 with plenty of mags would probably be more in line with this approach.

I'd forget about pistols, shotguns and revolvers and focus on hi cap mags and AR lowers...

Not to mention ammo...There's a good chance the anti's will focus on the ammo more than guns.

hmm, list for 2008....

  • Custom Multi-Role AR15 (put together from blank lower up)
  • Para PXT1445E B + 2-4 extra Mags
  • HK Mk23 + 2 extra mags (Mabie)
  • Russian M44 Mosin (may get a few of these)
  • Browning A-Bolt .223 WSSM
  • Browning BAR .300 Win Mag
  • Lots of Ammo & Reloading Supply's

2008 list for me:

*Saigas (at least 1 rifle and 1 shotgun)
*ar-15
*a couple Cetmes built from kit
*couple ak47s from kits
*CZ 75 or Glock 19
*.357 revolver
*M1 Garand
*assorted C&R guns

I need a summer job. Being a student with no income sucks when there is a ban come up and so many guns you need.

I don't understand why you'd spend money on somethin' the rats will just want confiscated anyhow. Oh, it'd be nice if they'd just ban future sales and only bone our freedom deprived kids, but that's just the first step. Whatever you buy, get it FTF.

I need a good AK or two (considering a full length and a pistol), along with as many hi cap handguns, mags, and ammo I can get. Would also like to get a Garand before all the good ones are history. An M1A is on my wish list too...

I am going to go broke buying all this stuff before November!

I'm holding off on any AWB-proofing of my collection until I see the results of Heller. If they hold that the 2A is an individual right, it may be hard to keep the existing bans, let alone pass new ones.

My tentative purchase plans for 2008 are:

Shotgun, probably pump
.22LR rifle (bolt or lever)
AK variant in 7.62mm
Glock, AK and AR mags
1911
Maybe another 9mm
Bolt rifle, probably in .30-06
Any sexy milsurps that come my way

Fortunately I just got a promotion so I may be able to afford half of what I want :)

Don't bother with the CETME. For the same $ you can get FAL rifles. As for guns to buy.. go look at my 2008 SHOT thread. hehe

I guess I've got the most modest plan for '08.

1000 357 mag cases
2000 9mm bullets
2000 45acp bullets
8 lb power pistol
Walther PPS
6 Bricks .22 LR
A gun for my daughter--type TBD
Maybe a nice .22 rifle.
Crimson Trace for my P99c (not available yet)
Red dot UltraDot for my CZ75B 9mm

When finished I'll have 5K loaded for 9mm, 5K loaded for 45, and 1500 loaded for 357.

Yeah man, those firearms are about as endangered as krill.

My '08 List
Mossberg 930 SPX
DPMS Mini SASS
Either FN FS2000 or that new Kel-Tec .308 Bullpup
Another higher-end AK (wood furniture)
32 Round Glock Mags
20 Round M1A1 mags
AR mags (dozens)
AK mags (dozens)
AR drums
AK drums
CZ SP01 mags
Sig P226 mags in 9mm and .40

I heard a very brief mention recently, but can someone tell me something that I don't know about Garands possibly being banned?!?!?!?

That's like taking all of the puppies away from children.

Like a lot of the guys said, most of your list doesn't look like it's going to be a problem for at least a while out. At the same time though, don't buy stuff ya really don't want just because.

Or... we could just fight all the damn legislation like we keep doing and keep winning victories. I'm sick of having to stockpile and overspend to prepare for bans. This is crap. It's also criminal on some level or another. How about when they try to ban them, we "just say no".
