My '08 plan - what do you think?

AR mags 30ish
Sig 229
A 1911
Rem 870
A M44
A CX4 Storm .40 S&W
A good .308
And a few more 92FS mags.

And a load of ammo

2008 list:
J frame or Taurus Model 85
Glock 26 or 27, haven't decided yet
Basic 1911
.357 revolver of some sort
Another Mosin-nagant, any variation
Another SKS
10/22
Another Ruger MK II or III
Reloading setup for 9mm, .40, and .45
At least 200 rounds in each caliber I shoot stockpiled. I've already got a large .22lr stash, but I'm light on the centerfire calibers.

ok.... so after some thought, I think I'll first concentrate on mags and finishing my 2 ARs.

30-40x 30 round LMT AR mags
an additional 20 Glock mags
and finish up the ARs

after that, I would like a .308 or 7.62x39 (gotta figure out which) caliber semi... maybe 2. I'd have to decide whether I want to go AK, or FAL, or maybe look at something new like the new Keltec bullpup. Maybe a .40 cal pistol caliber carbine too (Keltec probably so it works with Glock mags).

and then if I anticipate that I'm going to get a 1911, get all the full capacity mags I want first.... then figure out the gun later.

I'm holding off on any AWB-proofing of my collection until I see the results of Heller. If they hold that the 2A is an individual right, it may be hard to keep the existing bans, let alone pass new ones.

Do you think they had time to write up the 5,000 page "Patriot Act" after 9-11? No, it was already written and sitting in a filing cabinet, waiting for an opportunity to deploy it. You can bet there will be no lengthy deliberations over the next AWB - if Heller goes badly for the 2nd, you can bet the next morning there will be an AWB in congress, that afternoon it will pass the senate, and be on GWB's desk the following morning, where he will sign it "in the interest of national security". That ban is already written up and greased good to slide right on thru the legislative process, just waiting on the right moment to slither it into place as law. Don't say you weren't warned.

They're not going to pass an AWB until after the election. No sense in risking their reelection. They're not waiting for Heller. There's a lot of time between June and November to acquire whatever I need.

There may be time between June and November to buy something, but the prices are rising already. I like to call it the Democrat Price Surcharge and it goes up every week closer to election day. Get it now boys!

All I plan on doing in '08 is buying ammo and a few spare mags.....Although if I happen to run across an old S&W M27 w/a 3 1/2"bbl or an old M520 ( the rare fixed sight N-frame .357, not the new L-frame 7 shot) I'll break down and get one!

Because magazines break, and without magazines, your fancy automatic is useless. And because when the next standard capacity ban comes, you'll wish you had more of them.

High cap mags would be on my list as they are a likely target. Gun wise I already have multiples of the evil rifles, AK's, AR's, Fal's, and as an extra bonus a 1919A4 come home yesterday as a brthday present for myself. :D

Why is everyone buying mags? How many can you shoot at a time? If you have a few hi caps, why buy another dozen?
They'd be like cigarettes in prison.

Besides, those 33-rd Glock mags are FUN!!!

Does anyone ever think about the government passing an AWB without a grandfather clause?

The logistics of confiscating guns in this are unrealistic. Despite the 4473 deal, there is no real registry of who own what, and guns are traded through undocumented channels so often that it is impossible to track them down. Not to mention the huge numbers that are out there.

I think that all Title 2 stuff would have been taken out of civilian hands by now if there were a real drive to confiscate stuff already out there.

Why is everyone buying mags? How many can you shoot at a time? If you have a few hi caps, why buy another dozen?

Sell them for massive profit.

Or... we could just fight all the damn legislation like we keep doing and keep winning victories. I'm sick of having to stockpile and overspend to prepare for bans. This is crap. It's also criminal on some level or another. How about when they try to ban them, we "just say no".

I believe most people are hoping for the best and preparing for the worst. They want to fight any potential bans, but are realistic enough to know that said bans could still take place, particularly if there is unilateral control of both houses of Congress and the Presidency.

I personally am not so worried about who is President (all of the front-runners besides Huckabee have poor records for RKBA), but rather what the makeup of the House and Senate are. After all, the President can only sign off on a bill, it is Congress who writes it.

Mo' primers
Mo' powder
Mo' bullets

Doesn't matter how many firearms I own if I can't feed them! I believe ammo and components will be increasingly hard to get, or increasingly unaffordable.

Remember that in 1994 it looked like it was impossible for the AWB to pass, in fact it was considered dead. Even though the congress was Democrat controlled, a slew of new Republicans had just been elected and no Democrats had been willing to push to hard for the AWB.

Then while all but a couple of people were away from DC for the Thanksgiving holiday, Bob Dole used technicalities in the Congressional procedures to get it passed in both house with virtually no one there to vote, and of course Clinton was ready at hand during the recess to sigh in. Before the new members could return from vacation it was a done deal.

I don;t think a new AWB is likely until about Nov 2009 (next year), but history demonstrates that policticians can and will sneak garbage through at the most unlikely moments.

I think your plans are ok, wish I could plan. I bought a Beretta BL4 over/under and a Browning Semi-Auto .22 rifle at the show last weekend. I really only went to pick up some more low recoil 12 ga. from a vendor there. Who knows what the rest of '08 will hold, anything that shows up pretty and priced right is fair game.

Although I do have a hankering for a DPMS LR260 with the 24" barrel.

Skip your list, it will probably all be available if a new AWB goes in except for the Glock and AR Mags. Buy cheap and stack deep on those. Buy a bunch of your favorite ammo. Maybe an AR lower reciever or two. Go to a class.

and then if I anticipate that I'm going to get a 1911, get all the full capacity mags I want first.... then figure out the gun later.

As long as they stick with 10rd limits there is no need to worrry about the 1911.
