I just bought a Rem 870 for $125 from a guy that knew a guy. He claimed it was going to be in "like new" shape but when I got it, it was painted with Camo on the stock and the metal.

I had a heck of a time getting it off until I tried something that someone here advised, finish stripper. I didn't want to strip the finish on the stock but I gave in and decided that it was the only way. I applied the finish stripper and then rubbed it in with a nylon brush. It would wipe away easy after that. After I got all the paint off, I rinsed everything in cold water to remove the solvent and then sprayed WD-40 over the metal. I refinished the stock with Tung oil and it turned out great. It is about the 4th or 5th I have refinished and I keep getting better and better results. It does look like new now and I am happy. It took me most of Saturday to clean it up and it took until Wed night to get enough coats of oil for me to be satisfied. I think I ended up with about 6 coats of Tung oil. That seems to be about the right amount to get a good finsih.

Enjoy the pics.

Albanian,

Man, it sure cleaned up nice- you did a great job. And getting it for $125 was a real deal too. Only problem is, now it's too pretty- it'll scare the turkeys! ;-)

Hope you enjoy it a lot,

It is going to be my Trap gun. I didn't need the camo paint for Trap. I am still trying to figuire out what kind of person paints a gun.

I don't have any before pics. If I had known that it was going to turn out as nice as it did, I would have taken some. It looked pretty bad with that nasty camo paint. It wasn't even a good job of painting, it looked like someone had three different colors of spray paint and decided to try and do a camo job. There was over spray and drips.
