This past weekend, I went camping and took along my trusty Remington 550. This rifle is, personally, my favorite semi-auto .22 and is the most enjoyable semi-auto .22 that I have ever shot. I also love the fact that it can shoot .22 shorts, which means 20 rounds at a time for extra fun. (10 rounds of .22 LR normally)

I can't tell you what a pleasure it is, to shoot a 60-year-old rifle that preforms flawlessly each time. The Remington 550 was produced from 1941 to 1970. The 550-1 (my model) was produced from 1946 to 1970.

My 550-1 was manufactured in January, 1950:

Oh, one more thing I forgot to mention - when you shoot .22 shorts with this rifle, the long barrel in conjunction with hardly any powder, makes for a very quiet experience. In fact, mostly all you hear is the working action, thus when shooting .22 shorts I have dubbed this rifle "The Typewriter", because it literally sounds like one of those old-fashioned typewriters.
