After the trouble I had with my previous mossberg, I went out on a limb and picked up a second. I'm a lefty so they work well for me, I like the safety and slide release locations.

This is another 500A, newer though, parked with the 20" cylinder bore and 7+1 capacity, added on heatshield and side saddle. I also added a clip on light pipe think I had laying around.

First off, with 8 rounds in the gun, 6 on the side, this sucker is HEAVY. Granted, I'm a little on the scrawny side, but still. Funny thing though, I LIKE it, it feels like a solid weapon. It will be filling the role of HD, NOLA, SHTF, zombie, and whatever other terms we're using for self defense situations these days. The 5 shot 500 will get a new, longer barrel with choke tubes, and will become my sporting gun (anyone have a barrel for sale? :)), although I fully intend to try some trap shooting with this mallet. And once things settle down with my new job (HOORAY PAYCHECKS), I'm looking forward to taking some classes to run this thing a little better.

Couple of quick pics, although it looks like every other 20" 500:p

From the drivers seat (that front sight really stands out in anything but total darkness)

welcome back to the mossberg family. im sure this one will serve you better.

i really think it must be a mossberg thing haha. cant wait for the Z's

Good luck,Rob. The 500 is a fine shotgun. A couple things....

You've chanced on the secret with pimped up shotguns. S/Saddles, extended mags, etc, add weight. This tames the recoil mule down to a pony.

My 870 Zombie Zapper with S/S and so on weighs nigh 9.5 lbs. What kick?

Handling that thing daily will make it seem lighter to handle within a fortnight.

yup, that's the flipside of the higher weight. With my 18" wooden 500, the recoil was there (no doubt enhanced by the metal buttplate), but I think this thing with its extra length, extra rounds, and real recoil pad will be a lot easier to shoot lots and lots.

Yes, Rob, lots and lots easier. Especially if you use good form.

I suggest mining the archives for stuff on fit and form....
