I broke down to the unrelenting obsession and bought a 625-3; my second N-frame (please, gawd, let it be the last for a while!). It's a 4" ('cause I want to be able to shoot both IDPA and USPSA with it) and is fitted with Miculek grips & an SDM hi-viz sight.
Fed-ex has it tonight, and I should have it tomorrow, and I'm jumpin' outta my skin with the waiting. So while I'm waiting, hows about you who have or have had one tell me your favorite loads? What do you use to make IPSC major, and do you use a different (a.k.a. 'pussycat') load for IDPA's lower power factor? How much do you have to adjust printed specs, which are of course always from a 5" gun?
What kind of bullets does it prefer--230s or 200s or what? Lead or plated or jackets? And, one specific bullet question: Elmer Keith, in 'Sixguns', I think, talked about using hard cast lead in the 1917 & other .45acp revos to 'hold the shallow rifling'. This seems to suggest that a swaged LRN--like Zero's 230 gr., for instance--would not do so well. Is that right, or was Elmer just talking (as usual) about what worked at insane pressures and velocities? I'm not gonna shoot jackrabbits at 300 paces or defend myself from ol' Griz, here.
Thanks for sharing with an eager little boy

PS--mods, sorry if this belongs in reloading; I just thought it would find its intended audience more readily here.
