The stock on my 870 has lost almost all of its shine. It was my own fault, I had stored it in a walmart case which absorbed all the oil. I've tried going over it with rem oil pads several times but it has not absorbed it. What should I do?

Clean it good with a multisurface cleaner and then try some Pledge or similar product.

Store in closet instead of inside a case.

Shoot it however it turns out,

Andy, I believe it did. Upon inspection there are spots both in the blueing and in the stock where you can see the finish was absorbed by the foam. So I mean, there are parts of the stock that have a lot more luster to it. I'm guessing that's from an oiled finish.

Before I took drastic measures, get a piece of REAL burlap and try rubbing the finish hard.

If that doesn't work, I would recommend the Minwax Tung Oil to add to the existing finish and touch it up. If it is oil, you can refurbish it without stripping the old finish.

You have to be some sorta Ninja to do the true, old school boiled linseed oil finish. I wish I had those skills.

Never use Rem-Oil on any wood stock, no matter what the finish.

Petroleum based oils are very bad for wood and pretty bad for many stock finishes.

To the best of my knowledge Remington has never used a rubbed oil finish on any of it's standard line of 870 shotguns.

I believe it is likely some sort of sprayed on lacquer or epoxy finish.

I would first try cleaning it with Lemon Oil Furniture Polish.

If that doesn't help?
Follow up with a polish job using Automotive Clear Coat Rubbing Compound.
