Here's some photo's of my AR i've been building for a weeks or so (and about 1/3 of my cat, she wouldn't go away). Its a Smith and Wesson M&P15A, UTG Quad Hand Guard, Surefire light, cheapo-BSA laser, ah.. ah... generic $15 sling and a recoil pad (i'm a wuss, i know). Just image a red dot scope and a forearm grip on the bottom there, they'll be along soon. Opinions?

What was the damage? $$
I been working at a Franken-15 with my Noveske lower and rra LPK...still need that upper.

Opinions?

Only opinion I have is ditch the UTG quad rail before it melts, or spontaneously combusts, or explodes, or something.

I've bought UTG junk twice. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I'll never buy their crap again. I wouldn't even accept UTG stuff as a gift.

Other than that, S&W's ARs are supposed to be great. Good choice.

hadmanysons, I like your setup, what model Surefire did you go with?

Looks good!

Had to look twice at your second pic, looked like a torch flame, and wondered what you needed that for:D

I have a UTG quad rail on my RRA middy, solid as a rock! By the sounds of it, it will soon far off, or crumble to pieces:rolleyes:

Good job! I declared mine finished after the EOTech, but I may still change a few parts like the pistol-grip or add a flip-up front sight. I went with a midlength standard hand guard, I won't be mounting lasers or flashlights on mine.

All around, about $1400 plus about $500 in ammo so far. I hear good and bad things about UTG stuff and my buddy keeps rubbing his free float in my face like a just bought a french made car. I got the factory mag right now and 5 MagPul P-Mags in the mail. Is a 6P model Surefire. Didn't wanna drop $50 on a flashlight but its the only thing that would fit my flashlight holder.

Did that recoil pad add much length? I just bought an M&P15A and after shooting it a couple of times, I wish the buttstock was a 1/2-1" longer. Where did you get it and how much, if you don't mind my asking?

All I've done to mine is mount a Bushnell Holosight and buy mags, which, come to think of it, other than trying to lengthen the buttstock a little, is probably all I will do to mine.

I'd say it added about an 1 inch. I got it from Wally-mart. It's the large size. Works great but its a universal device so it will have a little bit of rubber condom-type stuff that hangs over to hold it in place. But I just rolled mine back and it works great and doesn't block the sling. Also, It's a lot squishier than the screw on recoil pads.

Thanks for the info. I think that may just be the ticket. Enjoy your rifle. I know I really like mine so far.

UTG makes great stuff for Airsoft guns. I wouldnt put their stuff on my rifle. The rail covers might be ok, but i would switch to a surefire rail If I was you. Other than that, it looks great.

With 100% honesty, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it did. I've had a UTG carry handle. It had enormous casting voids all through it, wouldn't hold a zero, and the small aperture was noticably out-of-round. Sent it back. Many moons later, I got a side rail scope mount for an AK. It mounted the scope about 1/4" to the right, which was very annoying for a righty. It stayed solid for oh, 2-3 weeks, then it suddenly got out of adjustment and absolutely refused to clamp on tightly unless you positioned the nut and lever just so. Sold it at a large loss, with full disclosure.

Fast forward to now, and I've since spent about 5 times as much compared to UTG, on a Mossberg 500 scope rail, and about 8 million times as much on a genuine KAC RAS for my AR build. No regrets. The extra money is worth knowing that it's not going to just suddenly fall right off the gun, like that AK mount. Nothing like going "BANG! Hey, where's my scope?"

Wow, That bad, huh?

The AR I bought came with one on it, seems just as good as the Troy unit I put on my RRA 9mm. Some things you just cant see, like air voids:scrutiny::D

I'm not to worried about it right now. Somewhere down the road i'll invest in a nice free floating one. Just trying to get what I can for it now while I still can. More worried about my $20 laser be just that, a $20 laser. Again, will buy a nice $100 green one down the road
