I'd been wanting an AR for awhile now, but was often discouraged at prices... but with the help of two THR members (you know who you are!) and their willingness to give some great deals, I'm all set up and rockin.

Here are some pics. The target is 40yds, super windy, not slow shooting and me just leaning up against the car, so I'm pretty optimistic about what it'll do when I have time to lay it on some bags and shoot slow.

Unloaded it weighs in right at 5lbs. Light and robust, with some real nice features. Exactly what I wanted.

Parts
Lower:
Rock River
Magpul CTR stock
ACE buffer tube
Spikes tactical tungsten buffer
JP enterprises trigger
Upper:
DPMS
16" chrome lined barrel 1x9
YHM flash hider
Knights Armament free float rail and covers

Magpul sights and mag

Thanks again to those who made the build possible!

thanks!

a second weigh on a scale better than my el cheapo one puts it at 6.4lbs, still great!

I did something almost identical to yours, bout the only difference is FDE magpul items

Oh Dammn... that's awesome work there my friend. I'm about 3-6 months away from building myself one. You've given me some good places to start. Nice pattern...

You da man. Good job. Now go build a dozen more.
It's addicting, like drugs but a lot cheaper.
And you get to 'shoot' the product more than once.
:p

thanks for the compliments guys! The last thing I think I'll add is a reflex sight, maybe something from trijicon.

Other than that, I'm going to need to save all other cash for ammo!

kis2, if you want to get into some sort of red dot on the cheap, check out primaryarms. Yes, they are selling chinese knock offs, but they aren't going to try to jerk your chain about what you are getting and they stand behind their products.

If you're looking to take the dive, I really like my Trijicon TA44S 1.5X. If I wasn't running the ACOG, I'd probably be running an Aimpoint T1 or H1.

Oh, and nice stick!!!

Thanks TonyAngel, and thanks for making the build at price point possible!

With the rear iron sight and mag I paid right at $650

Well kis2, you are on your way down the black rifle road. May God help you.

I know that you are probably itching to add stuff to your rifle, but don't go nuts. Get a case of ammo together and go take a carbine course. I haven't taken a course, but do know a lot of LEOs and have shot with them. I can't believe how much I learned in the informal atmosphere.

The next time my wife want to go to Vegas, I think I'll send her with a friend and go have myself some real fun and learn something to boot.

Keep me in your prayers TonyAngel, accessories are a great temptation. Honest to goodness, all I want is a quick acquistion red dot style sight. Although with the way these irons have been treating me, I may even reconsider that...

Optics are a gateway drug to more accessories though. So I'll have to use caution.

I'm compiling a list of courses I want to take, from the top they go like this:
Defensive Pistol
Carbine
Long Range

Defensive pistol is a must. Carbine I'd rather get done than LR, because I do so much LR on my own and attend matches for it. I think I'm done buying firearms for a little bit, time to invest in more training and ammo.

Thanks again!

I'd say it's time for you to get into reloading, if you aren't there already. I wouldn't worry about plinking ammo. Silver Bear and the like are cheap enough and aren't worth the expenditure of spare time to load. But precision ammunition is easily worth while.

I'm burning around 1000 rounds of .308 a month these days. I HAVE to reload.

thanks FMJMIKE!

200 rounds of el cheapo ammo down the pipe, no cleaning, no problems. (thumbs up)
