My first AR Build

Nice rifle! I'm not a side-charger fan myself but I can see why some people would really like them.

I don't think it matters if the front sight is turned around. The height issue would preclude zeroing though, glad they are taking care of you. I didn't notice that when I was looking at the picture!

You clearly put a lot of thought into high quality parts for that build.

Update: USPS finally was able to deliver the return and a new one is en route to me as of this morning. All's well that ends well.

The correct height front sight came in today as did the Proctor Sling. Have both installed but I -think- I like the LaRue padded sling I had on it better. The rifle is about 10lbs all up (light, sling, and mag included) and the Proctor is just a little too thin for comfort.

Range report (indoor 25 yard range...I hate winter) should be forthcoming next week.

Oh, and I decided I like the front sight installed "backwards" better. There's a bit of glare off the finish when attached "correctly".

I honestly thought you did that on purpose in the first place :D

I did. The internet told me I was wrong. Every other sight I have has the sight post detent in front. Apparently POF decided to be different.

Personally I enjoy the aesthetic of the carry handle and front sight sloping in the same direction.

It doesn't effect functionality, so #MyRifleMyChoice.

I'm down with the upper respiratory plague that's been going around on my first day off in the last 6, but I thought I'd at least update with a few pics showing the build off with the correct front sight installed along with the sling & light (and for the sharp-eyed, added QD sockets to the stock even though I'm running the Proctor WOTG sling at the moment.)

I originally wanted to mount the light at the left-side 45 degree slot up front but it's just too thick to work.

Got out to the range today for my birthday (yep, I'm a Boxer baby).

All good things to report. Ran (and locked back on) PMC Bronze, American Eagle 55gr 223 FMJ, & Winchester bulk 223 55gr.

Sights were low but centered at the 15 yards I had access to. Just what I'd expect.

Well, couldn't QUITE finish it - the spring for the bolt catch was the wrong one, plus the butt plate is still MIA, but it IS technically functional. Going to buy a slip on style pad, and try to find a bolt catch spring somewhere.

Nice! Do you mind saying approximately how many $ it took to build this one?

Going off memory?
JP Enterprises flash hider- $40
POF hooded front sight- $60

Lantac upper receiver- $135
Colt carry handle rear sight- $125
Geissele Super Charging Handle- $80 Young Mfg.side Charging bcg- $225
Eisenach Arms nitride gas key (the Young mfg gas key would not fit the gas tube)- $20
Rainier Arms Ultramatch billet ambi lower- $250 Seekins bolt catch- $15
2A Armament mag catch- $20
DSG Nitrided takedown/pivot pins- $25
KNS anti-rotation trigger pins- $35

Inforce Gen 2 WML- $90

Roughly $2174 by my math. Judging by how reliable it is so far, worth every penny.

Put another 50 rounds of cheap 55gr WWB through it at the range today. No problems/malfunctions. Was just playing around with about a half dozen different guns (took a friend to the range who hasn't shot this decade...spreading the joy).

Feels good to have all my money & time researching be well spent and rewarded.

Nice! I put handloads through mine, kinda backwards from you, super cheap rifle, painstaking ammo. :D
It is always good to take others out to the range, especially when they haven't been out in a while!

You're very brave.

I'd never go back and figure that out for my builds. Even for my 10/22 make overs. I'd be too scared at what I'd find. And scared it'd get back to Miss Kitty.
