Here's my latest Michigan Firearms Examiner article on how to reduce lead exposure risks from the shooting sports.

Tips to reduce lead exposure from shooting

"While shooting is a safe activity, as long as proper safety rules are obeyed, one health risk many shooters overlook is the exposure to lead and other heavy metals associated with firearms usage."

And, for those of you who haven't seen them, here are a few of my other recent articles on CCW tips:

Thanks for the awareness/reminder. I need to get my blood level checked again. Last year I was at 12ug/dL, about halfway to what OSHA calls "reportable." I'm not a super frequent high volume shooter but I was doing a LOT of reloading.

The range I go to has good ventilation & I shoot mostly plated or moly coated reloads, but I was fairly cavalier about handling/processing my used brass. When I started reloading I was buying a pretty good quantity of used brass & handling/processing it with bare hands.

After showing the elevated levels I started using nitrile gloves while handling & also giving the brass a soak in Lemi Shine before tumbling to get rid of the lead dust/residue.

I need to get retested & see how I do. The only real change I've made is handling brass to avoid inhaling lead dust.
