Thanks to my fiance, I'm now the proud owner of a Smith and Wesson model 1006...talk about happy b-day :D

She's a gun-gal and must have heard me talking with my brother about wanting a 1006, but that's been months. I can't wait to take it to the range.

Sorry about the quality of the photo - I'm still learning about lighting.

Take Care,

My brother had one. He let me shoot it one day. It was d/a & s/a. I shot d/a and noticed the trigger was different (never shot one before). Anyway I thought the darn thing jammed or the trigger didn't reset. I pointed it down range and pulled the trigger. It fired. I engaged the decock and handed it back to him. I figure a gun should be single action or double action, but not both. Still a good weapon if you can overcome that problem.

Don't care too much for S&W autos, but you have impeccable taste in women...:D

Better than presents I've ever received. I had a hard time finding my own 1006. I've done limited shooting with it but I'm pleased so far. Looks like yours but someone added Millet sights and wood Hogue grips.

Great looking pistol, does it have an ambi safety?

It does; it's a safety / decock mechanism.

This will be interesting to shoot. My Colt 10mm (Delta Elite) does not have a beaver tail safety and my hand takes a beating. While this gun doesn't have a beaver tail safety, the rear portion does protrude enough to - at least upon looking at it - provide adequate protection for the web of my hand.

Thanks,

I bought a 1076 recently. The Smith DA/SA triggers could be better, way better, but it sure recoils soft compared to my heavier Witness.

Witness trigger totally kicks the Smith trigger's hiney hands down. I really like this 1076. If the trigger were better, it would be my favorite pistol. I now understand why several folks do not care for them when you consider the trigger.

I still like the gun and shoot well with it. I'd say grab them while you can, they are getting more scarce everyday. Congrats on the gift, you have a fine woman that will go out of her way to buy you a gun you want. Fine indeed.
