1) Turned the grenade launcher muzzle device into a "gill" style brake

2) Removed the GL hardware and bayonet lug from the front sight assembly

3) Pinned the sight at the forward pin location left open from the GL hardware (gives about 3" longer sight radius)

4) Added a Williams fire sight and peep rear.

Maybe you wouldn't do it to your SKS, but I like mine this way.

It's your rifle, do what you think is best and works well for you and don't worry about it. It's not like the SKS is rare in any case.

Take a look at the Tech Sights rear peep, it's a lot better than the Williams and with a much longer radius. The Williams is nice but it's not a real tight fit and it can slop around a little. If your shots start wandering, then the sight is bouncing.

No krylon
No JB Weld
No gratuitous use of a Dremel
No flashlight or laser mounted
No 40-rd magazine
No TAPCO stock

Sorry, as for a Bubba attempt, you FAIL. ;)

Nice looking rifle though!

I must confess I clicked on your thread with much trepidation anticipating some butchered monstrosity.

But I must agree with most of the others: very well done! I also own a Yugo and a Russian and I believe they should be left stock, but as noted your mods are tastefully done.

Besides, it’s not like you’re going to be launching grenades anytime soon. ;)

922r

Forgive me if this has been beaten to death, but aren't the Yugos subject to 922r compliance violation if you so much as take the bayonet off? Unless of course you go all out with the Tapco "compliance kit". I'll try to get pictures of my Bubba tonight - complete with cut down barrel!
:D

So... I take it nobody wants to see my unissued Albanian SKS with a chopped stock and barrel and pink Duracoat? I just finished making it a good tactical SHTF rifle by attaching a $12 red dot sight and duct-taping an LED flashlight and laser pointer to the handguard.

Failed? Dang! What about...

what I did to this poor Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk 1 I got at the pawn shop for $60? You should have seen the condition it was in... Looked like a cat had peed on it, dropped it off a cliff, and then stuck it under the couch in a college frat house for 60 years. I put in a 1" heavy 21" barrel, chambered it in .45 ACP, had to re-work the extractor, and made the magazine. The whole thing got new Park, the stock got the Easy-Off treatment before recontouring and finished with tung oil. The only thing I'm not too crazy about is the cheap Simmons scope up on top. Maybe some day I'll put the original rear sight back on and add a front sight.

P.S. you'd be surprised how much horse power you can get out of the old .45 ACP in a rifle like this with hand loads.

And if I understand it correctly, my SKS would pass the "sporting purposes" test (can't remember what part of the CFR that is) so 922r isn't a factor. A rifle in that configuration wouldn't be banned from importation <I think>.

I think a "bubba" would need a beer can launcher on the muzzle, the cheapest optic you can find, on an equally cheap mount ('cause you can never spend more on accessories than the 100 dollars you spent for the rifle) and a 30 round detachable magazine that doesn't feed more than two rounds without jamming ('cause you can't afford an AK). For launching bullets instead of beer cans, you should also have a pin-on muzzle break (to tame that wicked 7.62 x 39 recoil) which either flies off or contacts the bullets after a few shots.

After attaching all the aforementioned junk to the rifle, you would then be obliged to call it a "tack driver" to your friends who've never seen you shoot with it, or conclude that the SKS is a "complete piece of junk that can't hit a barn" after you've demonstrated that you can't hit a barn with it.

"I've had a Bubba. Some of my friends have had Bubbas, and you, Sir, have no Bubba."

I like the SKS. It's good rifle. I have four or five of them.

That wood is too pretty to be considered "bubbified".

Why don't you take a wood burner and burn "SNIPER" on the stock?

Acutally I would like to see that......

As for this one being a "bubba" rifle... You at the very least have to duct tape something to it, and it would help if it had a built in or superglued on bottle opener.

1. Navy guns, if that is bubbafied by your standards, we need to see some of what you consider your good work. That rifle looks good-really. Was the stock launcher ported along the sides, like it is now?

2. Also, Navy guns, that is some NICE work on the 45 SKS, too, are you a gunsmith?

3. Spiroxlii, we aren't ready to see some of that ultra-tactical stuff-too hardcore for the rest of us!!

first off, the stock looks great! nice work. 2nd, excellent job turning the GL into a brake. That looks really professional workmanship-wise IMHO. Very cool.

Also, converting the Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk 1 to .45acp is pretty cool too. never heard of that before (not that it hasnt been done a lot for all I know, I just dont recall aving ever heard of it)
