Missed out at CMP. So, I have an Inland M1 Carbine on hold at my local gunshop. Inland receiver, and barrel (12-44). Winchester tang, and winchester hammer, and Saginaw trigger assembly. Very clean with decent wood, and very good metal. Guaranteed functional by the shop owner who is a good dude. Also comes with 3ea 30 rnd mags, and 4ea 15 rnd mags. Original sling. 100 rounds ammo.

Problem: Found an import stamp on it, and it appears to be a South Korean import.

Gages at just a hair over 2.

Sticker price: $599

I'm thinking of offering $550 out the door. Is this a good deal??

It is about the best deal you wil find since CMP is out. If the wood is good and the metal is nice I say peel off those Benjamins and have some fun!! :D

Greg

PS:I paid $139.00 for my import back in 1996. I wish I had a dozen of 'em!!!

I concur...that is a fair price. Buy it (especially if you don't already own one!), unless CMP restocks (which is doubtful) prices will only continue to climb (even if they do prices won't be going south anytime soon).

:)

not that great of a deal, espacially if it's a Blue Sky import which is known to stamp so hard on the barrel that it become distorted You can find original ones at gunshows for $600 or so

I went to the North Store last May to pick up my M1. Some guy was there buying up every carbine they had, 8 in total. All lined up on the counter.

The President of the United States (Title...not person) is the biggest Arms Dealer in the World. A butt load of M1 Carbines were exported to other countries after the Great War & used by forigen militaries. Just because its imported from a friendly nation doesnt make it any less of an American Legendary Firearm.

Yea but a bent barrel doesn't improve accuracy any.

Good deal.
One of the best shooting Carbines I own is a Korean import.

Back when the Carbines were about $125 I use to buy them if they had a lot of M2 parts. I was going to strip the Korean gun but shot it first. It's a keeper, so I left it as is, except the stock was trash. A lot of the Korean guns had bad stocks, cracked, etc.

All;
Thanks much for the comments. The dealer is throwing in another walnut stock for me, and we settled on $559. I feel pretty good about it.

My late father carried one in Korea ('53). Given its Korean War era configuration, I plan to make it a wall hanger over his uniform photo in my man cave, and an occasional shooter.

Nice thought.:)

If it would make you feel better about the price, this morning I saw a very beat up M2 Carbine, with a asking price of $6,500.

It's a good deal. Some Blue Sky Imports had the over stamping problem. Most are GTG. Where are the import stamps?
I have a Carbine I built from parts and removed the import stamp from the barrel. I bet you wouldn't know it was ever there. I use as my range fun gun.

That actually sounds like a half-way decent deal to me...and for a handloader that wouldn't be that costly to shoot. Hmm...

:)

I'd say you did very well. I haven't seen an m1 for less than 600 anywhere in any condition a long time. Even the commercial guns are starting to edge up into the $500 range.

The import stamp is a very light fine line on the bottom of the barrel. "Someplace, VA". It might even say Arlington Ordnance like FMJMIKE's. It is too fine to read without magnification. I had a buddy of mine who is very well versed in WWII firearms check it out, and he never found the stamp. The dealer pointed it out to me off the bat, which made me think he was a decent guy.

I'll pick it up after work Friday, and get some rounds down range this weekend with it. Looking forward to reloading for it.
