I've always been a wheel gun fella but do have and love several wonderful autos. My EDC has for around 15 years been a beautiful Ruger 3 inch SP101 in a pocket holster of my own making. Limited access from a sitting position while driving, eating out, etc hasn't really bothered me because I always felt I could get to it if needed. I'm older and have stiffer joints now though. I have decided to try switching up my EDC, by using my beautiful stainless CZ75B. Also sadly world and national events have caused me to rethink my EDC choice. I have a responsibility to myself, my wife and other family members to take whatever precautions are needed to protect folks. Thus my decision also was made to try a higher capacity weapon.
I make all my own leather holsters and have now made for my CZ75B a clip-on leather IWB that covers the trigger completely, retains the beautiful gun firmly and holds it well in the appendix IWB position meaning I can access the CZ while driving, sitting in a restaurant with my wife eating, or any other position. The magazine release is not touched by the holster, and only touches the fat on my stomach or clothing when holstered. And at 6 feet 5 inches tall and about 300 pounds, the gun conceals well on my frame. Enough said I guess.
The magazine release on my CZ75B sticks out significantly. I don't sense anything wrong with the release at all. But while trying out my new holster several times (had to do some fat squishing honestly) I'd find the magazine in the released but retained (in the grip) position.
I'm thinking that this is an unexpected thing I just need to check often as I have always been used to checking any of my EDC weapon's position throughout the day when carrying. You folks who have always carried autos please tell me your thoughts on what's happening here. I'm sincerely wanting to transition over to an auto for safety reasons. I shoot this gun very well at the range, feel I can trust it's reliability with my life and have hundreds of failure free rounds through it to date. But do other auto carriers make it a muscle memory habit to check magazine insertion throughout their day? Thanks as always. Don.

Sounds as though you need either a new spring for the release, or need to change (or make a change to) your carry holster so that there's little or no chance of the mag release being pressed. (That may mean a new holster with a leather shield between the gun and your body.) This could be a problem with OTHER guns, too.

I've carried CZs off an on over the years and have NOT had the problem you describe -- and have an ample supply of body in the area where the release might hit. <sigh> Only the 85 Combat has what I'd call an extended mag release, and I've not had a problem with THAT happening with the 85 Combat, either.

I wonder if yours just is too easy to depress. Even then, however, it should still have to be pressed pretty fully to release the mag.

Have one here, I'd say holster is the main problem.
Get away from the IWB.

Take the release out and reverse it to the other side until you lose some weight.

The mag release on the standard 75B (the original gun) can't be reversed. (That's a new feature that started with some of the compacts, like the P-01 and the newest version of the PCR, and the Stainless models, etc.)

I've carried IWB with my 75Bs/85 Combat, etc., and not had a problem.... so it's probably something that changing the holster can help. Even with an ample waistline, accidentally releasing mags has not been an issue...

Thanks everyone. Again though, the holster doesn't touch or in any other way block the release. Again, only my fat and/or a light shirt. Nothing firm. It must be happening when I suck in my ample gut and insert the affair into my belt, since at that point I am gripping the gun. I'm now wondering if my thumb is hitting the release as I do this. Best thing for me to further investigate is wearing the gun and holster unloaded around my own home several days or even weeks to see if it happens. And it wouldn't hurt either to get into a habit of checking status of my rig throughout the day, just as I've always done with my SP101. Thanks again all. Don.

Hey Walt, it is a ss gun as described in the op. Maybe it is reversible, could be an easy fix:)

JDGray-- you're right. My error. That mag release should be reversible. (I read the original statement, but missed the "stainless" -- it was certainly there.)

It may take a little while to get used to having to push the mag release differently (as many lefties have to do, when they can't find an ambidextrous gun).

I'd go for a different holster, myself.

Wearing an inside waistband holster positions the left side of the pistol much tighter against your body, with a greater chance of increased pressure against the mag release.

If you're irrevocably wedded to that style of holster, then you might try the mag button reversal.
I'd still suggest a different type of holster.

Ya something seems goofy, I carry a cz with a extended mag release IWB and have never had any issues.

I think what I would be is start with a new mag release spring. Now because urs is the stainless changing to the short Rami release would look weird so you could cut ur release down to make it shorter and still look fine.

I'm just going to make an executive decision for myself and forget about carrying my CZ75B for now. Maybe I'm plain too fat for IWB with it, and I already know my SP101 has no such potentially complicating issues. An extra Speed Strip on my belt, judicious aim if the Lord puts me in that position (for the record I have never been a "spray and pray shooter at all anyway) and get to an exit with my loved ones in tow ASAP. I've made a very nice AIWB clip-on style holster for my SP101, and I'll design another clip holster for carrying my cell phone and one Speed Strip, then begin practicing blind reloads with dummy cartridges. As a last resort I can scream like a little girl and faint, fall on the ground and flail around violently, giving my wife time to run.
I appreciate all the input. Don.
