My CZ97B has been wearing Hogue grips since I first bought it. I never liked the original grips and the Hogues fit my hand good so I took the originals off and had them in a box for over a year. I needed a project, so I started messing with them the other night. I decided to see if I could refinish them into something nice. I was able to sand off all of the original checkering. I found that there is actually some pretty nice wood under there. I then put several coats of a hand rubbed tung oil finish. They turned out awesome! I had a great time doing it. Check out the pics.
I also decided that if anyone else would like theirs redone, I would be willing to do it for you for $25.00. Let me know what you think.

Hot Brass,
The CZ97B is a fine gun. You will be hard pressed to find a better gun for out of the box accuracy. I do not own a gun that I shoot better than this one. I like the trigger alot, especially the single action. Recoil is pretty tame for a 45. As far as what I feed it. Mostly 230 grain winchester white box from Wal Mart. It has fed everything I have tried. I have not tried a lot of different Hollow Points. Some have had issues with HP's. Nothing that working over the feed ramp would not cure. Quality is nice, not as nice as some. For the money in a 45 this is a very hard gun to beat. I read the other day on the CZ forum that there is a guy with over 30 thousand rounds through his.
One thing you have to watch out for is if you have small hands. Those with small hands have issues reaching the trigger for a double action pull. I have been very satisfied with this gun.
Here is a link to a review that our own George Hill did on this very gun.

Removing the coarse checkering probablly improved the trigger reach.
I know that having HAKAN slim down my grips some really helped.

I have one for sale in the other forum

Its the Glossy Blue finish, but other than that it looks like the one in this thread, although I do have the original grips.

Well well well.......they turned out nice. Very good.....I believe even Hakan would be proud of you..........:D

Excellent Job............Ill have to see if it shoots better now. Grips do make guns shoot better.......dont they?

Shoot well

Sorry George. I didn't mean to make you feel bad :( . :p :p :D

I wasn't aware Hogue made grips for the CZ-97B.
You have to use the ones for the CZ75B. I heated them up and stretched them on. I actually liked them alot. They fit my hand very well. I have pretty big hands and the trigger reach was never an issue. I'll probably put them on again at some point. Right now I will try the "pretty" ones for a while.

I did the same to my 97 grips, they look much nicer smooth, as you found out. Too bad we don't have more options for these pistols, maybe some day. In the pic below, they only have two applications of tung oil, I put more on later.

Nice! I was never a big fan of wood grips until I got a set for my HiPower. If only I had bigger hands I would have held on to my 97 *sigh*, great gun.

12 Volt Man - I am just please that it's new owner is loving it and caring for it properly.... and evidently spoiling it a little...

When you give up one of your children for adoption, that is the best you can hope for. :p

Started working on my second set tonite. My Brother In Law could not handle mine looking prettier than his. His ended up with nicer looking wood that matched better. I'll post the pics when it is done.

Oh Great............George, now I get to see MY CHILD that got adopted.
Im sure Ill be just as proud as you are...............sniff, sniff :D
The Irony.................see if I give you a hard time anymore.......

Shoot well..............

You guys go out fooling around with gun after gun. Nights and weeks of gun adultery and fornication are bound to lead do some illegitamate children. Yes, the secret is out. Even Eric had a bastard child. :D
