After about a month and a half waiting for the parts to be shipped, we finally got to put this together on Saturday night. We haven't shot it yet, but I have to say, after handling it, I am jealous!

The rifle is all PSA. The upper is their "mid-length light profile premium madness" upper. It is a PSA upper with M-4 feed ramps and a 16" mid-length 1/7 chrome lined HPT and MPI barrel from FN. And yes, it is parkerized under the FSB. :D The barrel starts out as "A2 profile," but is machined down after the gas block to lighten it up a bit. It is pretty light, but not quite "pencil profile," and it still takes the standard 0.750" gas block. It has a PSA M-16 BCG (Carpenter 158 steel, chrome lined, tool steel extractor, gas keys staked, and marked "MP"). We put the bottom end together with a PSA stripped lower from a local gun shop for $95, with a PSA lower build kit (standard lower parts plus a 6-position M4 stock kit).

Total cost for the rifle was $630.96, including shipping.

I got the Magpul MBUS rear sight from another LGS for $53 out the door. The red dot is a Bushnell TRS-25 on a UTG 0.83" mount for absolute co-witness. Total cost for the RDS and mount was $88. We also got him 3 P-mags to get started with, at $14.20 a piece. Flashlight and sling will be coming soon.

I love how this thing handles. It has awesome balance. I might have to put together a light/pencil profile middy for myself one of these days soon! More soon when we get a chance to get it to the range.

If anyone else has any sweet pics of nice lightweight, simple ARs, feel free to post them up!

Hey glad to see the parts came in and you got it together for your Dad, henschman! Looks great, and what a price! It's hard to choose anything but PSA these days.

I have that same upper (we talked about this upper in another thread a few weeks back). Hope it works out as well for you as mine has. Right now I'm using a spare carry handle but will be adding the TRS-25, the UTG riser that gives bottom 1/3 cowitness and the MBUS 2 since I have that combination on both my Daniel Defense and BCM rifles.

Again... looking good!

My thoughts exactly. I've been nothing but pleased with every product I've bought from PSA so far, and unlike some competing AR vendors <cough> BCM <cough> they actually have a great variety of products and parts in stock most of the time.

Mine is pretty similar, except I stayed with Magpul BUIS, no optic yet, Hogue Ergo Grip, Magpul MOE forend on and Magpul CTR buttock on, as I prefer them both ergonomically and esthetically. It totaled up to $815 after taxes and the Magpul accessories. I am looking at putting an optic on it later on, but haven't decided which one I want. I like the perfomance of the EOTec Holographic, but I like the price and battery life of the AimPoint P.R.O. Nice no frills shooter. Stock up on ammo an mags while you can. Enjoy

I got a new PSA upper, even simpler. 20" A3. Group is 9 shots @ 100 yards with iron sights off a bench. I normally don't shoot that well with irons.

Chris,
As much as I get why people like the M4gery, I think the A2 is an awesome rifle. The A2 with a fast twist barrel will do a whole lot if you want to shoot farther ranges. I like the M4 but I love the A2 as a recreational marksman. I hope you can get one.

Two eyed jack,
Nice job. Simple pleasures in life are great when you can appreciate them. what ammo?

I helped a friend build a light weight AR. That had me wanting one.

$630 is pretty low.

I have a couple of builds in mind but now is not a goood time.

The ammo used in that group is pretty simple. 55 gr. Win softpoint with cannelure, and a max load of H335 from an old Hornady manual that may or may not be considered safe these days, and Lake City brass, just short enough to get through the magazine. If you blow up the picture you can read the actual number of grains of powder.

Yeah, thanks again for those pics of your barrel profile and stuff. It really is hard to go with anything other than PSA in this market. Though I have to say, they did piss us off a little with how long it took to ship. I ordered at the end of September, and just got it in last week. If you're just ordering a few parts, it might be worth paying a little more to BCM to make sure you get it that week. But we saved enough over what this setup would have cost from anybody else that we can't really bitch too much.

I am getting more and more sold on those TRS-25's too. I like how I can afford to equip several of my rifles with them, instead of getting an Aimpoint that I have to switch back and forth when I want it on something else.

My own personal AR is also a 20" Palmetto, with the gov't profile 1/7 CL MPI/HPT barrel made by FN. I haven't tried it with any hand loads or premium ammo, but it shoots around 2 MOA with M193 spec stuff, from prone with a sling.
