My daughter bought a Taurus PT92 AF(fixed sights). She kept complaining that she couldn't hit anything with it. Even at 25-30 feet! She hits a 7" square almost every time with he LCP. So, ????. I went out to the range with her. I soon realized that at 20-25 feet the pistol was hitting about a foot left, and about 14" low. After fooling around for a box of shells or so, I realized that if I looked through the 1/4 inch gap between the barrel and the front slide ring, I could see the orange center of the target. Sort of alining the front slide ring with the rear sight, seeing the orange of the target through the peep hole between the barrel and slide ring I could get within a couple inches of the center of the target at at 20-25 feet. That particular pistol is pretty much useless for more than point blank range. She sent it back. If Taurus won't repair or replace, the only option I can think of it to file the front completely off and file a small notch into the back of the front slide ring and put a drop of paint into the notch. If that painted notch were held at about the very top of the rear sight, the gun would hit close to center at 30 feet. So what would one do at 20-25 YARDS?

i LOOKED AT ANOTHER pPT 92 IN THE STORE YESTERDAY, AND IT DOES NOT HAVE A 1/4 INCH GAP BETWEEN THE BARREL AND THE FRONT OF THE SLIDE RAIL.

I suspect that Taurus will be sending her a new pistol. Even adjustible sights wouldn't fix that problem.

That famous Taurus quality control. And this with what is by far the best pistol they make.

You have more faith in Taurus customer service than I do, given all the complaints I've read, but I hope they do replace the gun for your daughter. Please update us on how things work out.

FWIW I have just returned my wifes Model 85 revolver back because the screw that retains the crane had worked out and was lost along with the spring and pin they replaced the missing parts, cleaned and test fired the weapon and returned it no chg. other than the cost to ship it to them. Took 11 days total, 8 days faster than my Sig repair. The Taurus was bought used and is twenty years old vs. new and 2 wks. old on the Sig.

I have never been blown over by Taurus. I have owned a Public Defender and a stainless .22 revolver of theirs. Neither stuck around for long.

When I wanted a 92fs, I opted for an Italian Beretta instead of a clone. I know they are "basically" the same thing, but my experiences with Taurus did not leave me with the warm and fuzzies.

I returned a 24/7 for repair last year. I'm second owner.
Gun was made in 2007.

Taurus picked up shipping both ways, because I sent it
through a dealer.

Had it back in 7 days. Fixed free of charge.

Could not ask for better service.

All the Best,
D. White

Buy her a $300 Beretta 92S. Why fool around with a copy? I hope her taste in men is better than her taste in guns.

I own and like about every gun maker out there. I like a few taurus models....but refuse to buy one. All one has to do is head to a few lgs and look in detail at the various models and see flaws and issues galore. Those that have good ones consider yourselves lucky. Taurus consistency and quality just isn't there, and it's a shame too.

They seem to spend plenty of money on advertising and new models galore and yet can't seem to fix their constant and consistent poor quality issues......weirdest business model I've ever seen. Seen promise of leadership to work on the issues....which says the constant issues are the real deal not exaggerations or myths. Maybe one day we'll see good stuff and I can add a taurus to my collection without taking a huge risk.

Nailed it. Unfortunately, this is a business model that works. Taurus isn't the only company that uses it, either, but they're the most egregious offender. They still move a tremendous number of guns every year, though.

It is too bad that you did not go the gun shop with your daughter when she bought the gun. A quarter-inch gap between the barrel and slide ring would stick out like a two-headed dog. Heck, the top of the front sight on my Beretta 92 is only 0.242" above the barrel.

Good point. I was a bit unfair in singling taurus out by themselves. Thanks for putting it into the proper perspective.

So far, Colt, Charter, Dan Wesson, Ruger, S&W, and Taurus have all been good to me. So have Izhmech, EAA, and CZ.
