My Daughter's New AR

By the time my daughter was about four and a half she had been allowed, under close supervision, to touch some of my guns (I wanted no mystery there.), she had toy guns, and she was already learning the four safety rules. One day my family was sitting at the dinner table talking about guns. My little daughter asked, “Daddy, when I get my first gun, can it be pink?” I responded that I wasn’t sure if I could get her a pink gun, but I began to look. About a year later, I found the pink Crickets and bought her one. Below is a picture of her on her first shooting trip. Notice the big smile and that her attire matches the rifle.

Fast forward eight years, and she is now thirteen and an avid shooter. She has been asking me for a pink AR for about three years now, so for Christmas my wife and I got her all the parts needed to build an AR including pink Magpul furniture. My daughter and I then built her first AR. We had so much fun. Last weekend she got to shoot it for the first time. The smiles were huge. Below you will also see a picture from last weekend. Notice the matching gloves and muffs. Had it not been cold you would also have seen matching shooting glasses, a matching pink t-shirt, and a matching S&W hat. The cold threw off her fashion coordination plans, but as much as she has grown and matured, I am delighted to see the same little girl in pink is still there.

I am proud of this kid!

That's awesome. I take my middle daughter hunting and shooting but my youngest and oldest girls have never showed any interest. All women in my household except for me. Even the dog is female. I'm sorely outnumbered so I'm glad at least one is into the sport. Good times.

And this is why I'm so glad that there are manufacturers making options for shooters of all kinds out there. From the sounds of it, she would have gotten into guns anyway, but if the pink helps keep the attraction, even better.
Points to you too for sharing an experience (with your daughter AND us here at THR) - hope there will be many more in the future.

I wish more people would do this with there kids! I had horses and it was a family thing we all road and spent a lot of week in with are kids and horses, IT is time spent with your kids that glides them throw life.

My daughter is 7 months old. A couple weeks ago I bought her a stripped lower from Aero precision.

I plan to gradually build it for her one part at a time over the next several years. I'll use magpul FDE furniture and dye it purple with RIT dye...

Nice choice -- PSA makes some good stuff. They are one of my favorites. I give them a lot of credit for bringing fully mil spec complete uppers down to a price anybody can afford.

Mine are still at the Savage cub stage, but we've got one in bright (Very Bright) pink!

Hoping she stays with it and can move up to the pink AR!

Mine is 5. I'm afraid I will need to make one like that one day. Google images "hello kitty AR". My wife saw some of those and was like. Make me one of those. Lol

Now I feel like a bad parent. Mine are 8,7,7 and 3 and I haven't started an AR build for any of them. Will be doing through PSA soon though. In all seriousness though, just moved to house on 6 acres in the country and have been trying to decide at what age to let them start shooting with me. Maybe this Spring for the older ones. Not sure yet.

My daughter never grew past her first pink bolt action repeater. Shooting never took hold in her. That's okay, she's on a different path than ol' dad.
