So with a fat tax return on the horizon, it's time for me to pick up a new firearm. Maybe.

I currently have a Yugo M70 underfolder, WitnessP 10mm, CZ P-07 duty, and a Benelli Supernova. My main uses for these guns (aside from the obvious SHTF and personal freedom) is for plinking and some simple tactical drills a la Nutnfancy. However, I've thought about getting into 3 gun and multi-gun competitions.

Now, my M70 is bare-bones stock. I've also put about 1k rounds through it. The fact that it is so used and lacks a chrome barrel is starting to worry me a bit as to how long it'll last. I haven't noticed any degradation in accuracy or use, however. I've got to say I love AKs, and am not a fan of the AR platform. It's just not for me.

My options are thus:

1. Get an arsenal AK and equipment to get it up to spec. This would most likely involve selling my M70.

2. Get an SU-16C + nice optic and a ton of 5.56, keep the M70.

3. Keep the M70, and get the upgrades to bring it up to snuff (optics, rail,), buy a ton of 7.62 ammo, and get a mossberg 930spx for aforementioned competitions.

4. M1A. It's my dream gun, but I worry about the weight and cost of ammo.

Thanks for all the help and feedback in advance!

Option #3 is what I'd do.

Ulti-mak rail with Trijicon RMR (the fiber optic one) or one of the little Aimpoints (T1?). Lots of ammo and fun, and a good shotgun with the change - sounds like a winner - you're not gonna wear that barrel out with 7.62x39, chrome lined or not, believe me. Shoot it till the cows come home.

I'm also going to go with #3. The good doctor here's got some good advice.

I'd say either #1 or keep what you have and spend the $s on a class.

Arsenal makes a nice AK, and if you learn it you don't need to change a single thing in order to shoot well. OTOH, going to class you'll learn how to wring the best out of what you have.

I used my SLR107FR last month to take top iron sight shooter (22 out of 49 shooters) at our local match. The rifle below is th one I used and it's pretty much bone stock. BSW
