My Dream 1911, when will they build it?

I keep thinking of this particular 1911 as a perfect all around range, occasional carry and home defense pistol.

A Springfield Armory TRP w/ rail in 10mm. Even cooler would be a wide-body hi-cap version (16 round mags anyone?) I love my 10mm converted Para-Ordnance P-16 but for some reason I keep lusting after the looks, quality, light rail and full length dust cover of the TRP. We will likely never see a TRP in 10mm, but could they at least make one in .40 short and weak soon so that I can make my own in 10mm? One can wish.

Surely you could build your own. Someone makes a 10mm 1911, don't they? Or at least a 10mm barrel that you could install. Can you drop your Para 10mm barrel into the TRP?

What about the guns built by SVI and STI? Do they make 10mm barrels? I know that they make .40SW barrels, so maybe you can start there.

For some reason, I've been leaning more seriously towards the full length dust covers lately also. I liked the look years ago when I saw a long slided Briley custom 1911 with the full length but seems to be more to my liking now. Maybe it's because it is becoming more prevalent. Looking on getting a CZ75 SP-01 (non-Tactical) too. 10mm is always a big plus for me.

It has always been my opinion (I know, baaaad way to start:rolleyes: ) that the heavier slide associated with a full length dust cover would be a good thing if building a 10mm.

I would even go so far as to suggest adding some type of additional weight in the form of a solid rib on the slide top. I know folks run 10mm 1911's with standard slides pretty succesfully, by I feel that added slide weight would be a benefit when working with 10mm pressures.

Hey, I could be wrong here, but surely one of our friendly neighborhood 1911 Tuners will let me know soon enough!:p

My love of the SP-01 I have has surely had an influence on me. The full length dust cover on the SP-01 really does help tame recoil and control.

Yes, you can just drop in a 10mm 1911 barrel but you are forgetting that the slide is for a .45 thus the extractor, ejector and breech face are all the wrong size.

SVI pistols use an interchangeable breechface system. If you get a gun from them in 10mm, it has a breechface, extractor, and ejector specifically designed for 10mm. (I have 3 SVI pistols, including a 10mm single stack.)

There are a number of 'smiths and companies that could build you exactly what you are looking for. All it will require is time and money...
