Grats on your purchase. First pistol and in turn my first 1911 was the PT1911 and I love it. Solid gun for a great price.

If you don't like those plastic grips I purchased the hogue wraparound grip for mine and it works perfectly. (not the 2 individual grips on both sides) It also works just fine with the ambidextrous safety. I'd highly recommend them.

Congratulations! $500.00?! They have forged receivers, forged slides, etc. Tey are excellent quality. If or when the MIM parts do break, replace them with bullet proof Wilson parts. Post some targets!!!

I personally use the Wilson Combat, 10-round magazines with my 1911s. They always function.

Also got 2 McCormick 10 rd Power Mags, just because 8 rds. just isn't enough with this gun !!!

Could you give me a part number or something for these mags that work with your PT1911? I've been looking for some higher capacity mags like to know which ones you used. If you have any pics that would be great, like to see the mag in the gun. I found these ten-round mags on midwayusa, is this the kind you got? Thanks

Heh, this is my 12th firearm overall, and 3rd for this year. Hard to believe it took me this long to finally own a 1911.

BTW, Taurus has a deal going on right now, where you buy a new Taurus gun during 2007, and you get a 1 year NRA membership for free. So my gun ended up being $465, not too shabby.

Range report:

I took it out to my range today, sent 150 rounds downrange.

The Taurus 1911 took everything I threw at it, no failures at all. I did slow fire, rapid fire, controlled-pairs, double-taps, etc. Both the gun and magazines worked perfectly.

First 50 were independence 230gr FMJ, next 50 were Blazer 230gr FMJ, last 50 were Fiocchi 230gr JHP. All fed perfectly, even the Fiocchi JHP during rapid fire.

Some things I'd like to fix:
1) Trigger pull is a lot heavier than I'd like for a SA gun (IMO). I need to get it lightened and also reduce the overtravel, maybe a little bit of the takeup.
2) Grip safety spring is really strong! I'll give it a few hundred more rounds to see if it's a break-in issue, but I'm finding i'm really having to press hard. Also, it's a mite uncomfortable.
3) Maybe get some brighter sights - perhaps a fiber optic/tritium set.

Other than that, I'm psyched to finally own a 1911, and for $500 I couldn't have hoped for much better.

very nice, thanks for the review sounds like that is another happy taurus 1911 owner! glad you like it, keep the reports comming!
