Just yesterday, I got my first Glock! It is a 19. I have been comparing it to both of my S&W M&P pistols. I love it. The "cup and ball" style sights are great, the disassembly is sooo easy. I have detail stripped it already. The grip is great and comfy, and I might just have to turn "Glock" into "Glocks.":D

Edit: It is a brand new Gen 4. I have fired exactly 400 rounds through it with no failures, and I did not clean the gun before I fired it. 200 rounds of that was Tula, and it performed flawlessly.

Have you fired it to see how it recoils compared to the M&P, I ask as I have a Glock and am considering an M&P.

Yes. I have fired exactly 400 rounds through it. I have an M&P 40 and M&P 40 Compact, so I am new to 9mm. So, I cannot accurately compare the recoil. I will say that the trigger on the M&P is much better than the Glock. The M&P's are very reliable though, I have around 10,000 rounds through the full size, and about 3,000 through the Compact. I have never encountered a malfunction, except due to using Tula ammo. Do not hesitate to buy one, they are great pistols.

Congrats on your new gun! It is a great handgun and it will give you years of shooting pleasure!!

I've been trying to find a trade-in 19, with no luck. If I get one, it's going to have to have a trigger job.
I'm seriously considering getting an M&P 9 or an XD 9 or .45.
The XD and M&P feel better in my hand.

I lie the Gen 3 and 4 Glocks better than the Gen 1 and 2, but the finger grooves don't fit my fingers.

I find 22s and 23s all over the place, as trade ins, but the 19s are rare as hen's teeth.
When a 19 does get traded in, it gets sold quickly for and exorbitant price.

First shot with a Glock is like DA, if you only release trigger to reset, then all other shots seem to be like a SA trigger. Once you "learn" the Glock trigger it will eat the M&P for lunch IME. Too many people do not like the "feel" of the Glock's grip, but have never really shot one. Based on "feel" I should have shot my CZ PCR with it's 3.9" barrel way better than I do my G19 with it's 3.8" barrel. CZ's stock trigger was so horrible in DA, and was little better in SA, that I retired it from active service and eventually traded it off.

I prefer the M&P over the XD because it is more comfortable and I don't like the grip safety.

Glocks aren't for everyone. For years I couldn't use a Glock because of the stupid grip angle that made me cock my hand at an equally stupid angle just to aim it straight. Then the Gen 4 came out... And now I can use any of the Glocks with no problems. Weird..

I will agree about the Glock Gen 4. Prior to Gen 4, I never liked Glocks. After Gen 4, I love them. The Gen 4 was made for me. What a great gun. On top of that, my Glocks all talk to one another, ie, mags and most parts are all interchangeable.

Again, what a great gun. Love my Glocks.

I get my 1st Glock, a 17, in two days. Of course in reading the two or three prior posts, I'm getting a gen 3. But my local gun range has allowed to rent one & it shoots well, & Bud's had them with night sights for under $540, which seemed like a decent deal. I prefer heavier pistols, & have a CZ 75B, but I wanted/needed a 2nd hand gun for home self defense. All you read about Glocks is every time you pull the trigger, they go bang, so that one at Bud's became my HD choice.

Congrats on your purchase.

Congratulations! I am always thrilled to hear of another new Glock user. You got an especially fine example too in the Gen 4 G19. Have fun!

Jaymo, SGB is out of G19s right now, but he does regularly get batches of all sorts of LE trade-ins. It might be worth paying shipping and transfer fees (but also saving sales tax) if used G19s go for that much in your area. Here's the link to his Glock section - http://summitgunbroker.com/GLOCKS.html.

Congratulations on your Glock. I have had a Gen 3 G19 for awhile. I just bought a brand new G22 Gen 4. I have fallen in love with the new grip. Now i am trying to sell my G19 to buy a Gen 4 G19.

The new grip just feels more secure when firing. And the angle seems to agree with me more.

I really love my Glocks. I kinda hate that I do, but there it is. The 19 is the bee's knees when it comes to compromise between a full size and a sub compact. I went with the 26 simply because I was looking for a carry gun instead of a range gun.

That said, my 26 outshoots every other pistol I own:eek: I have several thousand rounds through my 21, but my warm up break in period with my 26 shot a ragged hole at 14 yards off hand. I love this little gun, and it has made me fall in love with the 9mm all over again.

I have a Glock 19 and an M&P9. While the difference in recoil is slight, I feel less perceived recoil with the M&P.

They are both great guns, and you would be perfectly happy with either. Try to find a range that will let you rent each.

To the OP, congrats on the new purchase! I am sure that you will soon have more Glocks in your collection ;)

Keep it up you polymer prophets, My will is weakening. 5 decades of wood and steel, wheel guns an 1911's and I find myself looking for a Glock 26.
What will the neghibors think? :) Will my family have an intervention?

Oh well, we will see! ! !

Polymer is all that I have had in my life.....until my grandfather gave me a 1953 Colt Commander in .38 Super this past weekend. I was already in love with the 1911 platform....now I am even moreso...

My son just bought a shield. He paid retail $450. plus tax. I looked it over. His trigger is heavier than my g19, but breaks like a glass rod. It has a manual safety. It is heavier than my 19 unloaded. Didn't compare loaded, but I would think my 19 would be heaveir. I don't like the looks of his feed ramp as it is very steep and more narrow. Mind you, I have not shot his pistol, but I can assure you that my g19 is a keeper. I would much prefer the slimmer shield for cc, but for a truck gun or home defense the g19 is the cats' meow for me.

Is there really a difference in the grip angle between Gen 3 and Gen 4? I find the Gen 3 grip angle to be perfect for me.

I don't think the grip angle changed at all? Either it is a mental thing, or the grip width is what was actually causing problems.

Maybe it was mental? Or maybe it just took me a while to get used to the grip angle? The only polymer guns I have owned are M&P's.

There is a grip angle change between the M&P line and the Glocks. After you shoot each enough, switching between the two is fairly easy (at least it is for me). Many things in shooting are mental, and while some people say that they can't stand the Glock grip angle (and will never shoot one well because of it), that really is a mental thing for the most part. Spend a couple hours with one and 99% of people will be shooting them just fine.

I received my Glock 17 gen 3 today. I'm not an experienced or pro shooter, but I took it and my CZ 75B to the range tonight. The 75B has about 300 rounds through it, so it's been broken in a little. At 10 yards, I was more consistent with the CZ, which I feel was due to the heavier steel frame. But the Glock was fun to shoot, and I did OK with it, especially when I moved the target up to 7 yards. With night sights I plan to keep it in the house. And I suspect my accuracy will improve as I break it in more. Easy to clean also.

You "should" be more accurate with your CZ then with your Glock, its not at all uncommon, many need some time adjusting to a Glock. Stick with it, you'll get it down soon enough.
