My first Ruger Automatic

Very nice! Should be very reliable, and reasonably accurate. I remember when these came out decades ago, and I almost bought one. I chose a LNIB Browning Hi Power instead for around the same price.

A P-89 was the first semi-auto I bought after retiring from the Air Force in 92. Kept it for near 10 years before I traded it away. Large, kind of chunky, but a very reliable shooter...

Congrats on your new old school Ruger. Most of the P series never felt quite right in my smaller sized hands but the SR9c is a great fit. Look forward to your range report.

At the range

Solid shooter, quick back on target, 70 rounds today and no failures. Shooting Blazer Brass 124 gr. FMJ.

10 rounds at 7 yards.

I had a P89 that I foolishly traded away. Reliable as all get out and comfy to shoot.

I had a very early P85 and no matter who shot it they couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Loved the look and tank construction but dealt it away. I later picked up an 89 and loved it but foolishly traded it towards something that I had to have. A handful of years back I found another in like new condition and rectified my error. It is a very early 89, so early (transitional) that the serial number shows it to be an 85. This one stays with me. IMHO almost a classic.

A great pistol...accurate, reliable, pretty.

After 20 years mine has achieved heirloom status.

Ruger P Series

The Ruger P-85 is the only centerfire Ruger semi-auto that I have ever owned. Mine is certainly no target pistol but unlike Storm's P-85, mine can consistantly hit the broad side of a barn.

It is a very reliable shooter, center mass accurate at self defense distances, and has never chocked on any brand of ammunition.

I got a p89dc in a trade a few months back. Kinda funny I have a regular p89 in another state so now I have 2. Couldn't turn it down, only costed me 50$ and a defense shotgun that did nothing but collect dust.

The P-85 was my first duty-issued semi-automatic pistol back in 1990. Like Storm says above, I had difficulty shooting it accurately, but managed to qualify with it. I had had no formal training with semi-automatics prior to that, coming from an agency that was issuing wheelguns (with which I did very well.)

I now have much more experience and education with autoloaders, and currently own a P-95 I picked up a little over a year ago. I shoot it a lot better than that P-85, having developed more skill over the years. I'm glad to have it, and I even carry it sometimes.

I like the P series pistols and wished they still made them. I have the P90 and the P95, but prefer the P89 over the P95. Nice Gun, Enjoy
