I went for CMP Rifle week.

I have so many good stories, and came away with so many memories, and learned so much that I'll have to let things settle a bit before I can collect all my thoughts.

But I'll leave you with this. I had a commemorative T-shirt done.

Somewhere, somebody is a spelling and grammar Nazi.
When you meet him, he will point out the typo in your shirt.

:p Glad to hear you had a fun time man. :)

Excellent!

Camp Perry is a great experience, something that every shooter, good or middling, just ought to go.

You get to rub elbows with the greats. You are usually squadded with people who are outstanding shooters, you get to watch what they do and how they do and it improves your shooting.

Shopping on Commercial Row, I always leave with powder and bullets, and stuff I never knew existed, but found I could not live without. :uhoh:

Damn, they misspelled colonoscopy. I even printed it out from a Word doc so they wouldn't screw the damn thing up.

Son of a ......

Since most people won't look at it long enough to notice, let alone know how to spell it . . . it gets the point across well enough.

Besides, wearing a sweatshirt and leather coat I'll sweat through the damn thing hard enough to ruin it and need a new one just in time for next year.

SlamFire,

You're not kidding.

Sherri Jo Gallagher hunted down a friend of mine to get my phone number. She sent me a text late Tuesday night to tell me I shot well at the NTI.

The 20-25 mph wind killed my offhand position, so she was being gracious. But I did nicely everywhere else.

Heh.

The winner of the 2012 NTI . . . a living legend in the community . . . sent me a text to say I did well.

The High Power community is like none other among the shooting sports.

Which range were you shooting on for the NTI? I was on Viale (R4 #112) and the winds were pretty fierce right before roll call at 0645, but they really dropped off before relay1 shot.

At least you didn't manage to cross-fire, like I did, on shot #3. Ugh... bye bye leg points.

We were right next to each other. Viale, 110 Relay 6.

I was the dapper looking fellow smoking the delightfully aromatic blend of pipe tobacco. By the end of the day the chaps around me were practically begging me to fire up a bowl and stand upwind of them.

I measured morning winds at 30mph on my wind meter. By the time I shot my offhand they'd picked up to 15-20 sustained and blew me all around. So no, I didn't crossfire, but I did let a visible miss go.

I put it all out of my head and had a really nice sitting and 600 yard score. I mis-judged the wind intensity at 300; when I looked back through my scope I adjusted and put 8 shots in the 8/9 ring. The first two were X's. But I'm really happy with how I did at 600. I had anywhere b/n 1 & 1/2 and 4 minutes of wind doped, and only got caught a couple of times in the switches. I've never shot in wind that rough before.

I must have gotten lucky Ken: there was only a light breeze when I shot my offhand. I wish I could have blamed by foul-up on the wind! :banghead:

I finished up the week pretty strong, shooting well in the team match with a 483-9X (M1 for Vets Gold team). I missed gold in the Springfield and Garand matches by 1 point in each match, but was still happy with the scores since I only really shot the old-guns once or twice a year.

I suspect we'll see you on the firing line again in another 51 weeks?

No, I actually shot that score with my AR15. I can't hold THAT hard with an M1!

This year I shot the as-issued M1 on Saturday since my unlimited-class M1 was in the shop for trigger work. Had a nice group in the 9-ring for the rapids, so that cost me a bunch of points in the match, ending up with a 280-3X. I'm still pleased with my standings, but it's one of my long-term goals to place in the top 10.

someday...
