My Frankenbuckmark

Did you purchase your Buckmark with the rail alread installed? If not, where did you buy the rail and how difficult was it to install (does it need to go to smith?)?

I'm planning on picking up a Buckmark as my next pistol... I want to spend more time at the range without having my wallet completely soaked by the price of ammo. I figure I can take my 9mm and/or my 45 out with my 22, put a box of 9mm/45 down range, and then shoot the 22 until I'm sick of loading the mag.

The buckmark line offers a model that already has the rail installed with an adjustable sight. The entire upper sighting part of the gun is held on with two screws, so its very easy to change out from normal tangent sights to rails, to anything you want, or nothing at all.

Can't say I dig the pink barrel, but I can't argue with the results either!

Gandog, nice setup and good shooting. Do you ever remove your scope rail to do cleaning, and if so has keeping your zero been an issue?

Is that rail affixed right onto the slide portion of the firearm?

No, it just sort of sits on top of the slide and acts act a cap to keep everything in place, but it doesn't havve an effect on cyclic rate. There is a threaded hole on the top of the barrel (near the left thumb in the picture) and another threaded hole in a "rear support" (near the right thumb in the picture) that the scope rail (or the rear sight on many Buckmarks) screws into.

That's pretty much what I do these days, but be warned, .22 pistols can become an addiction.

Wow, if anything might make me monkey with my Buckmark, that target pic might be it. How does it do with open sights? BTW, mine needs a new recoil buffer pad, after 15+yrs the original finally got battered to bits. Do you know where to get one? Thx!

Do you know where to get one?

http://www.browning.com/customerservice/partsandservice/index.asp

It will cost you $1.25 plus shipping, which can be steep but is sometime reasonable. If you own any other Brownings I usually go through and see if any parts need replacing on any of them before ordering.

When ordering parts it is important that you list the code number, part name, caliber or gauge, model, grade and serial number. All parts prices are F.O.B. (Freight on Billing) point of shipment. Since Browning parts will not interchange with guns of other manufacturers, our parts sales and repairs are limited to our products. You can also view available parts for the firearms Browning currently has inventory for by going to the Gun Parts Price List.

I do not remove the scope for a general cleaning, but do for a thorough cleaning. The rail is also NOT on the slide and has no effect on cycling. The zero does not drift far when I completely remove the sight. Had to buy the rail from the manufacturer of the barrel...Tactical Solutions...who I believe no longer even make these barrels in 10 inch lengths, any more. Longest they seem to make now is 7.25".

The barrel I replaced was 5.5". I wanted longer, and stuck on the 10 incher they had back then. My gunsmith ordered and installed it, so I have no idea if it is anything like drop in. And it did improve accuracy. Wouldn't be surprised if it upped velocity a bunch, too.
